“Lunch at the Ben Nevis”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014 via mobile

We stopped here on our way touring in our camper and wanted a break from cooking. We were warmly greeted by the staff, particularly the short haired blond lady who was very nice, polite and attentive, well done a real asset to the Ben Nevis. We ordered and food was served promptly, piping hot and of excellent quality, I opted for the Wexford chicken and mark the fish pie, both were beautiful, well proportioned and tasty. A lovely find, would recommend, lovely staff, nice decor. Worth a visit

“OK place for lunch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

We (late-)lunched here after completing the West Highland Way - not sure we made the best choice.
The ales were reasonable (Light Ness in particular), and my fish pie was actually pretty good, but the service and atmosphere could have been better.
It would probably not be my first choice if I were to walk the WHW again, but Fort William overall was I have to say something of a disappointment.

“Great Burger!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2014

Try the burger - it is the best. And the fish and chips were really good too, Service was fast and friendly and the food was excellent. Great location, at the base of Ben Nevis.

“Avoid”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2014

Not to be confused with the excellent Ben Nevis Inn just out of town, to which the two glowing reviews here for 24th May seem to refer, this Ben Nevis bar and restaurant in the High Street recreates the worst features of a night out in the 1970s with truly awful service and uninspiring food.
We were sent to wait in the bar and when eventually called up - along with several other groups all at the same time - we took our seats in a dining room with 4 serving staff and (in the half we could see) 20 seats still free.
While we waited to order and then be served we saw many others sent away told that there would be an hour's wait or that the restaurant was full.
They had run out if all but a limited selection of steaks and when ours arrived the ordered medium rare was actually well done. The offer to cook another was pointless as we knew it was the last fillet.
The salmon bearnaise was OK but the sauce curdled and the broccoli greyish.
The staff became more curt as the evening wore on and the problems in the kitchen were obviously the source of the difficulty.
We were really embarrassed to see the large number of foreign guests receive an experience of UK catering that will have confirmed their worst fears.
No one seemed to be in charge but someone needs to get a grip on this place as it brings Fort William down.

“Great times!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2014

Celebrated our 10th anniversary & ended the night at the Ben Nevis bar. Great, loud (very loud!) live music & dancing, musician played 7 different instruments & knew how to entertain the crowd & get them going. Felt like a true pub experience & would go back tonight if we had stayed in Fort William.
