“Ben Nevis Bar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

A traditional two bar pub, one with a pool table & the other with comfortable seating & armchairs. Have been to this pub in March & was very quiet, last visit was in June & was very busy. It had live traditional music on one night then two nights of rock music (very loud). Also serves good beer.

“Nice food, shame not dog friendly!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

This place is not posh, had wooden floors and is a bar, for God's sake. Yet because we had our dog with us, we had to sit outside in the rain to eat our food!! Barmaid who served us was sympathetic, but unhelpful. Were only a couple of other people in the bar at the time and our dog lies under the table and doesn't bother anyone. In fact, the whole of Fort William needs to get it's act together - you are turning away half your trade because we can't go inside with our dog. We wanted to spend money on decent food, but couldn't. In these economic times, I would have thought you needed the business.

“Great value for money!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

A very warm welcome awaits you in this restaurant in the heart of Fort William. We dined 3 consecutive nights at this place and were never disappointed. The food is excellent and not too expensive. The portions are generous without being too big. The staff, especially the Hunagrian waiter, were very friendly and could not do too much for us! Whenever back in this area, we'll be back here!

“What a disappointment!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

We visited for a 'light lunch' while out shopping in Fort William town centre during our recent holiday. We have used this Restaurant on previous occasions during the past 15yrs - but, following this experience, will probably give the place a 'wide berth' in the future.

Hope you guys realise that, with the recent opening of The Great Glen (a new Wetherspoon's Bar) you now have far more competition, and need to 'pull your socks up' to stay in the game!

I had the Jacket Potato which was quite tasty - although it could have been a little bit 'hotter'; but the point of this review is the soup that my partner ordered ..................

It was described as 'Chicken and Leek' - which he loves, especially when it's declared to be 'Home Made'.

However this 'home made version' was completely tasteless with a very thick layer of 'grease/oil' floating on the surface. In my mind, if a chef doesn't have fresh chicken stock available for soup making, then he should at the very least use bought stock. Or, Heaven forbid - failing that, a stock cube! On this occasion, it tasted as though the chicken and vegetables had been sweated in far too much oil before being brought to the boil/simmered in plain water with no seasoning. My own personal recipe is available 'on request' ..................... - and YES it does include using 'home-made chicken stock' ;-).

Thankfully, when we complained about the soup, the waitress apologised, removed it, offered an alternative and removed the cost of the soup from the bill.

I have rated the Service as 'very good' due to the attentions of the waitress - much appreciated.
I have rated the Food as 'poor' instead of 'terrible' as my own meal raised the rating slightly.
I have rated the Value as 'average' as the prices are 'very fair'.

“The Home of the Meat Pie!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

Meat Pie is a staple in Scotland but I can say the best is at Ben Nevis. The eatery is slightly upscale with a view towards the water. If you have children ask to be seated by the windows. The meat pie with the flaky crush reminded me of American brisket with is sweeter beef flavor. My neighbors had the fish and chips and it was a beautiful sight. So if you go try the meat pie of the fish & chips. It's the best food I had in Fort William.
