“Another excellent dining experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

I last reviewed the Abstract in 2008 when we had an excellent dining experience. I was looking forward to going back and was not disappointed. We opted for the 7 course tasting menu for £55. It's not cheap but we thought the quality of the cooking was tremendous. We loved the canapés, octopus carpaccio, pork belly, beef and the chocolate fondant desert. Everything was enjoyable and the service was exceptional. My only disappointment was the matching flight of wines. Last time I remembered some unusual wines that really worked with the courses they were matched with. This time they lacked the wow factor and we might have been better selecting a white and a red to our taste. Overall, a real treat.

“Trying to hard!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013 via mobile

Not impressed with the menu! I found it difficult to find something to eat after flying in from the US. No light salads etc available. Ordered the shell fish starters on Monday Night and both were not available, which was a little frustrating. Thought I would keep it simple with burger and fries. You can't get that wrong, surely. Burger arrives, taller than it is wide. Not sure how you are meant to pick that up and eat with your hand. End up splitting it up with knife and fork, which now the burger idea is lost. What is this cook thinking! Meat, lean, has no flavor!
Now wishing I had returned to one of Inverness Indian's!
Positives - decor welcoming, modern, but warm. Staff trying hard to please, but difficult when food flat.

“A birthday to remember”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013 via mobile

Sat at the chefs table by the pass and had a fabulous experience. From arrival to petit fours this was a fabulous birthday treat. To see the inner workings of the kitchen whilst taking in the tasting menu and wines was amazing. One to recommend to friends. A Michelin rising star sure to get the full star soon.

“Superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

Cannot rate this place highly enough! The food, service, ambience, everything was excellent. We were there for a special occasion and it suited. for the price, we wouldn't return just for a run of the mill meal, but for a special occasion/to treat ourselves I would go back tomorrow. I gather from other people that have visited that we were lucky with our tasting menu as other people have commented that they had a dish that was "too weird" - every single one of ours was amazing. I recommend asking in advance to view the tasting menu for your particular visit if you are on the less adventurous side.
