We stayed two nights in the upper tower room at the castle. We wanted a real historical treat during our stay in Scotland and Kilravock certainly lived up to it. The castle itself is a historical landmark - with many antiques, paintings, tapestries and historical highlights throughout the building (there are tours scheduled throughout the day). Our room was very big - a large queensize bed (a treat in Scotland!) plus two singles. The room can be accessed by two stairwells (no elevators! - and you are on what would be the 4th floor - so not the best for dragging up luggage to the room) - The second stairwell is a special treat for only those staying in the room - a narrow, circular, stone staircase. My son loved this accessway! The room did have a bit of a musty smell, but hey, it's a castle! We also discovered that the room above ours (only accessed by the winding stairway) - was once occupied by Mary Queen of Scots. It's kept for tourists only so you cannot rent the room (how she made it up that stairway in a long, flowing gown is beyond me!) The bathroom is across a small stone foyer - at night, very limited light so bring a flashlight if you don't want to have to turn on all the lights to see where you're going. The bathroom itself was very clean, towels were provided, hair dryer and soap - but only heated with a small space heater mounted to the ceiling - so can get quite chilly in there. The room is also heated with space heaters (from what we saw) but does warm up very quickly. No TV's, no radios, but again - you're in a castle so definitely expected. Breakfast was in one of the main dining rooms and full Scottish breakfast (very tasty). The owners were absolutely wonderful! Very friendly and provided any assistance if needed. Overall, a wonderful stay, with some true Scottish history thrown in - would highly recommend it.
