“a moldy shabby place”

this hotel was vasty substandard. We had origionaly intended to stay at the Columba hotel as it had been a nice experience previously, but was convinced to try this one due to the pool and better customer rating. A BIG mistake.
In general the hotel is shabby, badly worn carpets and drapes (who knows how many years old), which didn;t even match the faded, torn wallpaper found through the building. And the smell was of musty cigerettes (dispite the smoking ban)
The pool was small but the plybord fittings of the surrounding balconies did not lend any luxury. Nor did the "out of order" steamroom.
Our room overlooked a roof which was littered with cigerttes and beer cans. The carpet which covered the room (including the bathroom and up the side of the bathtub!) was ingrained with visable dust, and the grout in the bathroom sported a health culture of mold. Soap and was I assume was shower gel was dispensed in public bathroom style dispensors mounted on the walls.
The only nice thing i can say is that the staff were nice and the food was pretty decent.
But I have stayed in many hotels half the price but double the quality!

Having checked the web site and Travel Advisor for this hotel, our party of four were very disappointed. The de luxe rooms were of reasonable size with appropriate facilities including a good sized bed, but they were drab and dated and in need of refurbishment. The bathroom for example had an avocado suite dating it to the mid 80's with ill fitting lino, holes in the door and walls and a sink that did not empty correctly. The furniture was dark wood in a dark room.
The pleasant conservatory dining room, probably the best room in the hotel, was unavailable due to a wedding party. The alternative was another drab room with a poor menu that remained the same each night- My beef was a tasteless pre- processed portion not Aberdeen Angus!
Breakfast food was good served in a pleasant room overlooking the pool. However it was unbearably hot and we were asked to move so that staff could clear tables.
The bar closed at 11.30 p.m. even to residents The public rooms were also austere with some furniture dirty. The entrance to the hotel was covered in discarded cigarette buts. I am sorry to say this was a poor hotel. The Swallow hotel group no longer exists but this logo is still freely used demonstrating a lack of investment in the premises. I could not recommend this hotel despite its good location in a very interesting city. Buyer beware!

“Great value for money”

Craigmonie Hotel & Leisure Ltd.

We stayed at the Craigmonie Hotel from Mon 7th May for 3 nights on an Easybreak holiday and found it to be great value for money although the room was a wee bit tired the hotel staff more than made up for this. The food and presentation of food was wonderful and the leisure facilities very enjoyable. We will use this hotel again when we are in the area.

“very good stay”

Craigmonie Hotel & Leisure Ltd.

My husband and I had a very good stay on the night of 30th April.
We booked the hotel BEFORE we read Tripadvisors reviews so you can imagine how we were dreading our stay after seeing your website!!
Many of the comments we read are actually most unfair.

Our room was furnished with very comfortable new beds with excellent mattresses by "Highland Blindcraft" ( yes we checked the label )
Our bathroom suite was perhaps not a modern colour and the tiles may not be to everyone's taste BUT the grouting was spotless as was the sealant around the bath.--not a trace of mildew anywhere. Spending money on replacing a perfectly good bath would be a waste. A new bath panel and flooring would be all that is needed.
There is evidence of lots of money being spent by the new owners and the price we paid was good value.
The hotel is mostly two storey and if fit, guests should use the stairs as the lift is a bit scary.
Our evening meal was much better than most hotels of a similar grade. In fact the vegetarian main course was judged to be the best veggie meal in many a moon!!
The cooked aspect of breakfast could be improved.
Staff are brilliant.
We would certainly stay again if in the area. The hotel is only about 10 minutes walk from the centre. Leave the car in the hotel's huge car park and enjoy yourselves!

“Oh dear, no expense spent!”

Craigmonie Hotel & Leisure Ltd.

Don't bother, unless you're a working bloke looking for somewhere to stay the night (and someone else is paying!). Drab, dark and dull. Rooms are tiny. I had two and gave up complaining after the second proved to have been previously host to someone smoking yak hair (or something like that) .
Staff are WONDERFUL. Can't fault them, they were lovely. But... the place is a dump. Swallow Hotels no longer own the property and whoever took it over has (it appears) not spent a penny on it. The elevator was broken and looked that it had been so for a while. Ceiling tiles loose, discoloured or missing, cables hanging from the ceiling on the first floor, paint peeling, narrow corridors and a musty smell. Both of my rooms looked out onto walls - the site is cramped. The pool area is ok; tired but ok, with what appears to be a new sauna (seats three "good friends"). I noticed that roof lights in the pool area were cracked and that generally the place was in need of a complete paint job.
Rooms are clean, but VERY dated. I had an avocado bathroom with flower print tiles - designs so old they are probably back in fashion again. Really, this place needs a considerable investment to make it worth what they charge for a room. I got the impression that the new owners just took over the hotel and hoped for the best. There are better hotels with higher standards nearby, I feel sorry for the staff.
