“Excellent B&B run by a lovely family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2012

A recent visit to family in Inverness was made all the better with a brief but thoroughly enjoyable stay at this B&B. The wonderful hosts were helped by their lovely children and staff. The rooms were spacious, quiet, immaculately clean with lovely little touches. The breakfast was hearty and delicious (sorry we forgot to fill in the second day's request).Thoroughly recommended!

Fred and Penelope couldn't have been more welcoming to our large family group (3 couples, 2 infants) all arriving at different times. Very good breakfasts. Nice comfortable rooms, in a mainly residential area but easy walking distance to the town centre and to the river. Highly recommended.

I first stayed here from 6 May to 9 May. Freddie and Penelope have set up a beautiful guest house. They are the sweetest family I've met, and I genuinely enjoyed my stay. The room was clean, quiet, comfortable and honestly it was the perfect place to wind down from my travels up to that date. The breakfast was delicious, made that day, and served with the warmest smile. Freddie was kind and took time to explain areas of town that were noteworthy and scenic, and he was spot on with all of the recommendations.

I had to continue on my trip but my time there was so enjoyable that I decided to change the last bit of my trip to stay there again, from 26 May to 30 May. After having wandered the UK for nearly a month, it was the best environment in which to relax and reflect. Once again, I was greeted with warm smiles and a comfortable room. I was in a different room for the second stay, but it was just as wonderfully comfortable as the first.

I will gladly stay there any time I visit Inverness and I very highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Room three faces West. Room one is by the main street. It's not a busy street, so both are very...

This B&B is an attractive house on a beautiful street, and it is in a convenient location near downtown Inverness. A nice breakfast was served, and the gentleman host was quite helpful and personable (we never met the lady of the house). Being concerned about possible traffic noise, I asked to be moved to a room off the street and was put in a rather small, plain room at the back of the house. The rooms in the front of the house were larger and nicer, and probably there wouldn't have been much street noise after all. I would stay here again but would opt for one of the front rooms next time. This B&B didn't have a parlor area for guests. There was off-street parking, a plus.

Had a lovely stay. Welcomed by Fred and offered a welcome pot of tea. The room was very clean, had tea/coffee facilities. Location is very pleasant, smart residential area of Inverness in easy walking distance of river and town centre. Plenty of parking. Breakfast was lovely and served at your table - i had smoked haddock with a poached egg which was a real treat. Their children helped during breakfast and are a credit to them - extremely polite and helpful.

Have just come away from spending a week at Atholdene. quite simply put, it is the finest B&B i have ever visited. The rooms are spotlessly clean, well kept and extremely comfortable. The service is unsurpassable, Fred and Penelope are extremely caring and attentive hosts who just go out of thier way to make you feel not just welcome but really valued too. oh thats a good point, breakfast........ RAWR NOM NOM NOMMMMMM, its plain fantastic. a variety of fresh juices, cereal, and "breakfast" fruits including bowel lacerating prunes. Also on the menu is the apparrently famous full scottish, for the lighter side there's scrambled or poached eggs and so on. If thats not quite to your particular tastes i was reliably informed by the lady of the house that kippers and other things of that nature were available upon request.

In this modern era of the Jobsworth, inflexible, rigid and indifferent attitude, tripping over a place like Atholdene House really is a revelation and i would not ever hesitate in reccommending this beautiful guest house to anyone and everyone planning to visit Inverness in particular or the highlands as a whole.

Now comes the critisism.................

Fred, that vase, you know, the brass one in the breakfast room, right hand side of the fire? No. just no ok! it looks like a WWII german bomb and has all the appeal and cultural impact of said device!

cocking a wink at Penelope.........................

levity aside, to sum it all up, amazing owners, fantastic guest house. If you dont visit, its your loss!

Room Tip: uh! well, any of them. i was in room 4 and i found it brilliant

Stayed here several time for business over the past few months and could best describe it as a home from home. Relaxed atmosphere, friendly, sociable family but not too intrusive. Always willing to help or offer advice and very knowledgeable about the Highlands/Scotland as shared with all guests. Quality furnishings in the bedrooms, clean rooms and comfy beds. I love my food and can only say that Fred and Penelope serve the best breakfasts in Scotland. Quality produce, fresh and piping hot to your table. In my opinion, they undercharge compared to other venues in the city.
