“This hotel needs improvement”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for two nights as part of a Tauck tour of Scotland. The hotel did not measure up to Tauck's standards nor to its own. A new wing under construction blocks views to the golf course and provides construction noise from 8 to 5. The hotel has a wifi system available for free in public areas and for a fee in guest rooms. The wifi signal was strong but the ISP connection was weak. Connection speed was no better than a phone line and email attachments could not be accessed. Food quality at our two breakfasts and two dinners was below average. Staff at the hotel were friendly and polite. There are better alternatives in Inverness.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review. I was sorry to read that you did not have a positive experience with us. I apologise for the short comings regarding your breakfast and dinner service and I will try to get further feedback on these so I can address with the team.

The new extension is replacing an older building which was removed in January 2013, so the same building footprint has been used, not taking away any of the views or outlooks from the existing hotel. This is part of an upgrading programme we are working through. The good news is the vast majority of the external building works are now complete.

Kind Regards

Double room in old building, which was clean but the bed had seen better days. I feel that the rooms are overpriced. Breakfasts are nice and a taxi ride into town is about £5. Your kings club rooms are superb as I've stayed before, but again, the prices put me off.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review. The hotel changed to private ownership in November 2007 and the new owners are absolutely committed to investing and improving the hotel. They have been reinvesting the profits back into the business since taking over and will to continue to do so.

All areas of the hotel will be improved however it is a large hotel and huge site and can not all be done at once. I hope you agree that the areas have been refurbished already have been done to a very high standard and classic taste.

Kind Regards

We were booked into the Kingsmill Hotel as part of a travel package to the Highlands. When we arrived we were told that we had been upgraded to the Kingsclub because of a construction project that was making the room we had been booked into noisy. The Kingsclub is a new building that is located across the parking lot from the hotel. It is small and very luxe. Most of the hotel rooms have balconies that overlook the golf course next door. The furnishings were extremely comfortable and the bed was excellent. The building was absolutely silent. There is a concierge in the Club building 24/7 and he/she would answer any question you might have. They were very helpful in providing maps and locating items that we found we needed. Breakfast is served in the ground floor lobby of the Club so there was no need to go across to the hotel.

We did eat dinner in the hotel two nights, once in the bar, and once in the prix fixe dining room. The food was quite good and the prix fixe value was outstanding. We also would stop in the bar every evening for a drink before dinner. The head barman is an expert on Scottish single malts and I learned quite a bit from him on these evenings. The service in both buildings, Club and Hotel, was excellent and our stay was very pleasant. We did some rather serious touring while we were there and were rested and ready to go each morning.

Room Tip: If you choose to go for an upgrade and book a room in the KingsClub try and get a room that looks ou...

With colleagues, last week we had arranged to meet at the Kingsmills where we enjoyed morning coffee. We then decided to take lunch and enjoyed it tremendously. Having to drive later, I did not want anything heavy so went for their soup of the day with a hot smoked salmon tart (starter) as a main course (served with a small side salad). My colleagues going for the larger lunch enhjoyed fosh and chips and a steak. We all enjoyed.

The entire staff serving the coffee and the young lady serving our lunch were both friendly, humourous, polite and efficient.

The service was prompt and well presented. Great!...well done

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback, I am delighted you and your colleagues really enjoyed your lunch. The chefs do work very hard to provide the best of quality using local ingredients and our service team have been continuing to train and develop.

Lunch at Kingsmills hotel is also very good value for money.

Kind Regards

Just returned from a short break with Wife & 2 Daughters (15 & 17). The Kingsmill was a perfect base for us to do a little exploring around Loch Ness, The Black Isle & beyond. Although just off a relatively busy road and 5 mins from the centre, being located adjacent to the Inverness Golf Club makes it feel far less urban. We took a 2 bed suite in the newer Kingsclub Spa annex & it was ideal. Clean, modern, satellite in both bedrooms, fabulous King Size bed & comfy bunks in the girls room. The bathroom had both double shower and a bath & was very contemporary in feel. We used the main hotel leisure facillities & found the pool, sauna & steam room perfect after a long day exploring. The staff were without exception helpful, breakfast was delicious and check-in/check-out was painless and easy as Kingsclub has its own seperate reception.

Room Tip: For familys the suites at Kingsclub are ideal.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your guest review. I am delighted you and the family had a fantastic stay at Kingsmills hotel and thank you for all the positive feedback. I will ensure this is passed on to the team and praise is given. Our family rooms are really great. I have young family myself and when we are staying away I know only too well the challenge it can be if the whole family are within one room. Our family rooms at Kingsmills provide comfort and and element of independence with the separate bunk rooms. We are currently building another 10 of these due to customer demand, these will be ready at the end of the year.

Kind Regards

We stayed here as a family of 4 for one night whilst visiting Loch Ness and surrounding area. We had been staying in a rented cottage further south in Scotland until that point. I wish we could have stayed longer...didn't want to leave.
The staff were friendly, welcoming, and the porter joked with my two kids every time he saw them, which they loved. The family room was huge, with a separate room for the bunkbeds used by the kids. This is such a plus to have the children there but "not quite" there....I really wish more hotels would realise the value of a small interconnecting room. It makes a family stay so much comfier and enjoyable.
The room was very comfortably furnished, light, airy, and had a really good sized bathroom which although arguably a little tired furnishings wise was spotlessly clean, had lovely toiletries, a huge bath and huge separate shower. Just what we needed after a shower-only cottage! It was one of those rooms that I immediately relaxed in - the bed in the main bedroom was ENORMOUS, and so comfy.
Breakfast was good, but not great. We weren't particularly late getting down to breakfast but there were few staff about - noone on the buffet area, for example, and lots of tables still with dirty crockery to clear away. However, there was lots of choice and despite rubbery fried eggs we all ate well and enjoyed what we had.
I can't comment on the spa area but my husband took the kids for a swim twice and they enjoyed it. The hotel is in a nice area, a fab park just across the road to let little ones stretch their legs and wear themselves out, and all round was a pleasant, happy stay. I would have loved to have stayed longer but we needed to get back....

Having never visited Inverness before, we decided to stay at the Kingsmill Hotel due to two separate people recommending it. On arrival at the hotel we were delighted to be informed that we had been given an upgrade and were in the Kingsmill Club building. As we were a little early, we did not expect to be able to check in, however the very friendly receptionist found us a room that was ready which turned out to be very luxurious and well equipped. There was even a welcome plate of home bakes which did not last long! Our room had a sheltered balcony overlooking the golf course and luckily we had the weather to enjoy a few drinks here. On our first night we ate at the Inglis Restaurant in the main building, the meal was delicious and the service excellent. One of our favourite aspects of the hotel, were the leisure facilities. We made use of the pool, jacuzzi and sauna area on both days we were here and found it to be a relaxing way to start our day. The service at breakfast was also exceptional, and there was a great choice of food available, whether you went for the cooked or continental option. With the hotel only being a 15 minute walk to the centre of Inverness, it is well located and easy to find. All in all, this was a great hotel and we will definitely not hesitate to stay here again, and we will be recommending it to our friends.
