“Let down!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

On arrival 30th September and departure 1st October gentleman at reception was very nice and helpful. Room fine at price we had paid through booking.com Breakfast was of good choice. Young woman in bar/ restaurant could do with some training! We ordered a cheese board to have with red wine. Board was plonked down in front of us, 2 of the cheeses were the dried up ends and we had to ask for a knife to cut the cheese with! No plates arrived! Very poor service after previous two nights in Perth hotel.Glad we only booked one night. Will not be in hurry to stay again.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with some feedback. I was disappointed to read that although you were happy with the welcome you received, your room and breakfast experience this did not flow through to our restaurant. I have passed on your feedback to the relevant manager and I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the any issues you encountered. If I can be of any assistance regarding this matter please feel free to contact me on diretcly at the hotel.
Kind regards - Dorothy MacLean, General Manager

Attempted to change my booking AND pay the difference in the room rate all to no avail. Went onto a search engine and found the rooms were available and at the original price. Beware paying up front once they have your cash they wont let go. Shame as I have now booked elsewhere and am happy to give my hard-earned cash to another Hotel.

Room Tip: Have stayed here on a number of occasions and one word to sum it all up - adequate.

The Thistle hotel was a stop on our group tour of Scotland so my experience is somewhat colored by others in our group. The hotel facility is nice enough, but I didn't notice that special zing I had seen in other Scottish hotels we visited during the trip. Several members of our group were upset that no free Wifi was available in room and lobby connectivity was limited to 30 minutes.

The dinner put on for the group was at best average and a bit restrictive in that although buffet format, required each person to order and wait for the entre after having filled their plates with side dishes.

Room was nice enough, but as with most hotels in Scotland, it had no A/C so open windows were the only way to keep cool. As our room face the rail line, that was a little noisy when the infrequent trains came by.

Overall, i would put the Thistle on our "let's stay next time" list.

Thank you for taking the time to place a review following your stay with us. It is still common in many hotels to charge for the internet connection. Ours is operated by BT WIFI, which means in addition to a fast and reliable service, BT home internet users can use there own logins to access the wifi at no extra cost. However our Signature loyalty scheme also offers our customers limited free access. Kind regards Dorothy MacLean, General Manager

Just returned from this hotel The room we had was an executive double nicely furnished and Tea/coffee facilities plus flat screen TV and plenty of parking space but you had to pay for WiFi which is usually free in most places.

We had paid upfront for Bed Breakfast and an evening meal no one told us and it was not on the booking confirmation or on their website that the meal was limited to £22 per person, after you had used this you had to pay for any food you ate. At the price of some of their food you would have been lucky to get a main course . After complaining to the staff the next night we got a photocopy of a 3 course meal that was within their £22 buget but the meals were completely different from the main menu . Most of the staff were very helpful others forgot to give us water or coffee that we had ordered. We were not the only ones complaining at this time about the same thing we have stayed in many hotels and have never heard of this form of pricing before,

Giving the manager and staff credit we were not charged for any food when we went to checkout only for the drinks so a happy conclusion.

Dear Guest, as mentioned in the direct response you received from my team, our dinner inclusive rate includes a delicious three course meal in our restaurant offering a selection of classic British and contemporary European dishes
This is stated on our website. To offer additional choices for our guests we also offer the alternative option of ordering from our extensive a la carte menu to the value of £22. I apologise for the unavailability of the 3 course menu on your first night, which was compensated by the removal of additional charges.
Thank you once again for your feedback and I hope to see you again in Inverness. Kind regards Dorothy MacLean, General Manager

Our coach party stopped here for our visit to Scotland. The bedroom had adequate room for two persons and we found the decorations were a little "tired" and the net curtains really needed a good wash. Hot beverage tray, hairdryer and trouser press available.Flat screen Tv gave several channels.Beds were comfortable but duvets were probably winter weight and sometimes too hot. Surrounding roads resulted in some traffic noise. The bathroom was spacious, but care was needed for the shower over the bath as the combination tap was difficult to control. Supply of clean towels were always available. Evening meal had a choice of three starters as was main course and dessert. The vegetables on the first two nights were undercooked, but after complaints from several of our party the situation was rectified. Breakfasts were good with choice of cereals, fruit, fruit juice and all cooked items, including haggis and black pudding! Provision for continental visitors were a selection of cold meats and cheese. The exterior of the hotel was having a much needed refurbishment. Painting was in operation and well-marked access through a side door was no problem. All staff were friendly and helpful, The lifts were trouble-free all the time we were there. We did not make use of the swimming pool whilst there, so can give no comment on this facility.

Thank you for the feedback, it is unusual for us to receive feedback from our tour guests and is appreciated. As you have rightly pointed out all our rooms have been fitted with flat screen televisions, offering a wide range of channels.
The refurbishment of the exterior of the hotel is taking place with little or no disruption to our guests. We look forward to the completion of the work which is due in the next few weeks. Kind regards Dorothy MacLean, General Manager

Having attending business meetings in Inverness, I decided to stay at the Thistle, It was well situated of the A9, and easy to find.
I arrived early, so made good use of the swimming pool, which was really clean, and staff so polite.
We had a meeting room booked, was set up as discussed, and all equipment requested was available, can not fault them what so ever.
Our buffet was served on time, plenty of compliments, I can say this is the best venue in town, for a meeting, the rooms were spacious and very clean, the staff were fantastic, can not fault anything at this hotel.

I would just like to take a moment to recommend The Thistle Hotel, Inverness to anyone who enjoys slow and rude service, being locked out of their rooms, getting reception for a whole two tv channels, dirty bathrooms and standing under a shower with no water. Final straw for me was when the showerhead actually fell onto my head, after I had been assured that a workman had fixed it! Oh and they also tried to charge me £46 for one course and a glass of wine and were surprised when I queried the bill! All in all this is the worst 'quality' hotel I've ever stayed in. However in the interests of fairness I will add that a colleague stayed there at the same time as me, and had a much better experience. Personally I cannot recommend the Kingsmills highly enough as a far superior alternative.
