A week-end trip for a 20th Anniversary with an overnight stay at the Mercure Hotel, great location for the railway staition and for the shops and bars nearby. Noisy at night courtesy of the usual weekend warriors when room is facing Church Street. Reception staff very polite and helpful even though really busy. Rooms clean and a little dated but comfortable with flat screen and usual facilities.
Small pool in the basement with gym, sauna and whirlpool is a little dark and spartan, pool receptionist was friendly and helpful enough, it's a little too basic and uninspiring though.
Public areas are tidy and comfortabe with a pool table and views over the river. The bar prices are elevated and expensive which lets the hotel down, maybe why it was so quiet. There was a large open heater sitting in the middle of the bar when we were there which didn't add to the mood.
Breakfast is usual corporate buffet with an option to order specials from the menu, nice touch.
I guess for an overnighter it's ideal, just ask for the riverside of the hotel!
River view room as street rooms are a little noisy.

We do have a lengthy programme of investment planned for the Hotel in the very near future so hopefully you will notice these changes if you choose to visit in the future.
I appreciate your comments on our team, they work exceptionally hard and it nice to see them recognised.
