We have eaten here twice before and enjoyed our meals - but this third time was a bit less successful. It's always difficult doing a less than excellent review for a place other diners are raving about, but this is what we experienced.
Male waiter was friendly, female waitresses very cool and disinterested - can only assume end of a long and busy Sunday (we had evening meal). Great selection on menu and good specials selection on blackboard.
We had goats cheese and an spring roll starters. Expected the goats cheese to be warmed or grilled - nope, just a slab of raw goats cheese on salad. The one spring roll was really tasty, but with a tiny smudge of sauce with it, it was parsimonious to say the least,
We both had 10oz sirloin steaks, which should have been excellent value at £18 each. But mine had gristle through the middle and along one edge, which chef should have spotted and rejected. Accompanying 'hand cut' chips were awful - undercooked, hard and tasteless. We ordered onion rings as a treat - portions large so two people could share one. Lots of mine had inedible onion skin in them (again, poor attention to detail in the kitchen), making a sort of doughnut affair, as the batter was too thick and floury and I had to leave the onion. The steak came with green beans, nicely cooked, al dente, but with both ends left on. We decided to skip dessert. Perhaps the boss isn't there on a Sunday pm?
Be aware if eating here, there is no seating that allows you a view of Loch Ness whilst you eat.
