Owner description: Water doesn't get much more mysterious than this 23 mile stretch running through the Great Glen in the Highlands of Scotland. There's no better way to experience Loch Ness than by boat. Jacobite's award winning tours and cruises get you onto the water and into the heart of this iconic landscape. This is a whole lot more than simply sight-seeing. We've been running trips on and around Loch Ness for over 30 years and most of us live here.

“A short trip on the Loch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2009

We experienced the hour long trip from the Clansman hotel. Not realising the quay was 9 miles from Inverness and having no transport we to take a taxi both ways, making it an expensive trip. Surely the company could provide a shuttle bus from Inverness as lots of their buses pick up there. The Loch itself was beautiful but the commentary was inaudible from the open air deck. I think this was long enough to spend on the loch

Hi
Thank you very much for your feedback regarding your visit with us. We do take customers comments very seriously and I am glad you have been in touch with us.
Of the 7 trips we run during the summer, you only require your own transport for 2 of them, the Jacobite Inspiration and Jacobite Freedom. The other 5 trips do provide complimentary transport from Inverness city centre to the boat departure points and back again. I apologise if this wasn't made clear to you when you booked the trip.
We are also very aware of the difficulties people have listening to the audio, especially during the peak summer months when the boats are so busy. We are in the process of rectifying this problem.
Thanks again for bringing these issues to our attention.

“One hour boat trip, standard of service and staff's attitude are very poor.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2009

It was in late July, me and my wife took the trip to Urquhart castle and we decided to do a short boat cruise on Loch Ness. We purchased our tickets from our guide off a coach tour and our boat was scheduled to leave at 3.30pm from Urquhart Bay.

Everything was fine, when we were waiting at the jetty until this blonde lady with an Australian accent came along to shout at some of our fellow passengers who were waiting beside us, threatening they would be left over and they would have to WALK over 300 miles back to Edinburgh if they do not get on the boat at the time. That was when i started having my first doubt about the cruise and this company. As Jacobite Cruise is fortunate and privileged to have such beautiful assets (surround landscape and Loch Ness) to run a business, but the question of why they recruit people with such terrible manner to tarnishing Scottish welcoming heritage and hospitality?! Was that shouting, bullying and threatening at all necessary in front of your other customers?

Then, the story went on, whilst we were on the boat, loud speakers started broadcasting safety announcements. I am sure if it is all required by law, however, voices (or, rather noises) from those speakers were not clear at all. We had been told a few stories and some brief information about the Loch and its monster, however, I could not clearly hear everything. I have done similar boat trips before, else where in the UK, with very similar amount of money we paid, we actually had a guide on the boat, who did a live presentation. In comparison with lifeless noises from those speakers on Jacobile Queen, it was much more entertaining and better value for the money we paid.

After about one hour, we docked at one of the locks, and we were told to get off the boat.

That was it, the experience of Loch Ness, by one single boat company, which is not necessarily well managed, but rather fortunate enough to be at the right location.

I have been reading some other comments that people left on tripadvisor; so much praise and compliments were actually for the beautiful Scottish scenery and their extended tours. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to join any other trips that Jacobite Cruise offers. However, I am confident to say, the tour that we went on, did not meet our expectation at all. Outrage outbursts from their member of staff and aged audio system run by a stereo, really does not leave me much to praise on.

Hope my other fellow passengers will find this review helpful, when you do go on a similar, one hour cruise with Jacobite, do not expect that much from them in terms of their service aspects. However, do enjoy what Scottish scenery has to offer.

Dear Tourer Uk

We apologise unreservedly for your experience with us on Loch Ness. We will be interviewing the member of staff highlighted about this incident. This type of behaviour will not be tolerated by this company and we will endeavour to ensure that this is never repeated. We would be obliged if you could confirm by email that you are willing for your comments to be used as part of a disciplinary interview.

We are aware that there are issues with the standard of our audio and are currently working with a new supplier in order to have multi lingual hand held devices available to all passengers for season 2010. We would like to offer you the opportunity to sample this next year.

Please contact us by email so that we can further address the issues raised.

KInd regards

“Absolutely Beautiful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2009

We went on the one hour cruise up to Urquhart Castle and back. Even though it was showering it was still beautiful and a wonderful expereince to be out on the loch. We would have appreciated a bit more commentary than what we had and the commentary was also difficult to hear over the noise of the boat. Overall it was a great experience and was wonderful to be there and soak up the atmosphere.

Hi
Thanks very much for the review. It is good to hear that you still found the loch beautiful even in not such perfect weather!
Regarding the audio we are currently looking at ways to improve this as we are aware that particularly during the peak season, it can be hard to hear.
We hope you will tell your friends to come and visit us if they are in the Loch Ness area.
Thank you again for leaving these comments.

“Awesome.”

Our trip aboard the Jacobite Queen was fantastic. The cruise up the Caladonian Canal into the lock and then into Loch Ness was beautiful. I would definately recommend this tour!

“Terrific experience - fabulous value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2009

We were a group of seven Canadian travellers, ranging from 16 yrs to 80 yrs, who thoroughly enjoyed our three hour Jacobite Cruise on Loch Ness. The tour director was extremely knowledgeable and personable. The boat was clean and the Ness Brew was delicious!! Thank you.
