We arrived in Inverness by train, and did not realize how far we had to walk to find the point where the Jacobite tour leaves. Their website talks about this, so it was our own short-sightedness. Dragging along our suitcase wasn't much fun through neighborhoods and along a highway type road. Just when your about to give up, tada! There is the Jacobite tour sign.
The trip was a lot of fun, and we enjoyed sitting outside for the better part of the journey, despite the rain. There is food and beverage available for purchase on the ship, and we made friends with a couple of older gents who sat at our table with us (it was a full ship). The tour includes a history of the area, which was really interesting but a little hard to hear. We took the 3.5 hour Discovery Tour, which stopped at Urquhart Castle. While mostly in ruins, it is rich in history, and there are incredible views of the River Ness from the banks.
Unfortunately, we did not see Nessie this time out. We would recommend Jacobite for a tour of the River Ness.
