“Clearly had a 'makeover'”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

Being a family of 5 (with 3 kids), Brewers Fayre (or 'Brewsters'), used to be our only eating venture out, but the trips have come far and less between now the children are getting older and beyond the 'playzone' years.
This was our first visit in almost a year, and clearly there has been a change and a menu and staff training 'makeover'. On entering now, you must wait to be seated (I attempted just to find a table in a half empty place), but was quickly shouted at from the bar to wait to be seated! We were led to a table of our choosing by a waitress who informs us what the soup is, what the specials are, and who will be looking after our 'section'. We had just sat down when a very nervous and awkward chap arrived to let us know he will be looking after us, bless him, he is obviously trying very hard reciting what he has to say, but it was all very un-natural and to be honest not needed. Anwyay food arrived quite quickly (15 mins) and was brought out by the 'chef', and was the usual fare to be honest, but surprisingly sparse (14 chips with my roast chicken, which was also surprisingly very 'unroasted'?). Kids meals were quite sparse too. Anyway it was pleaseant enough, not cheap at just under 50 quid for 3 mains, and 2 kids meals plus a drink each. On summarising, they are clearly trying a change of direction in an attempt to become more 'restaurant' but upping the prices and forcing the service will not get it there if you still sell average microwaved food!

“Great if you need to let your kids blow off steam”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

We've been here many times over the years, the main reason is that the kids liked to play in the indoor centre. The food here is average - it fills a hole. If you are on a tight budget then the themed nights are excellent value - curry night etc is popular.

“Good food and decent price”

Good choice of food and a decent price. Also like the play area for the younger children, keeps them amused when waitig for their food.

“Average!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

We had one dinner and two breakfasts in this restaurant as we were staying in the hotel next door. The breakfasts were ok but they seem to have replaced black pudding with hash browns since we stayed last. Personally I would have preferred black pudding. The hash browns seemed to be grilled rather than fried!? Breakfast was OK.......
Dinner was also just OK..... could have been better. There's not a lot to say really. I suppose you get what you pay for!

“Tasteless and overcooked”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

My Wife and I visited 2 weeks ago and had the Steak pie meal, both meals were very poor quality, did not find much steak in the pies at all and the overall quality of the meal was poor. THe crust was stale and hard and we found it hard to eat having to leave som of it. The waitress asked if every thing was ok when clearing the plates, we told her that it was not very nice and her reply was " I can't comment as I have not had the steak pie before" we wont be back as this is the 3rd poor meal we have had at this pub grubber.
