Having eaten many times in the Kitchen, I thought it would be an ideal place to round of the year with the family on Hogmanay. I booked an early dinner at 5.30, was told this was fine as long as the table was vacated by 7.30 at the latest.
Our order was taken for starter and main, the waitress also insisted that she needed to take the order for desert at the same time - a bit unusual but we agreed as it was maybe going to be busy.
Starters were rather poor offerings - masses of salad not very well presented, scotch egg which was ok but uninspiring, soup which was mediocre.
Steaks for the main course were ok, lamb was rather tasteless. Both were served with mashed potato and plain veg, again not very inspiring. Sweets were ok, but all were preprepared so not sore what all the fuss about ordering early was?
At the end of the meal I was somewhat taken aback that the meal was a special price and nowhere near the normal reasonable prices experienced at the kitchen in the past at £35.95 a head. This was the first we knew of the price as I was not advised at the time of booking and there were no prices displayed on the menu.
You will have to serve much better food than this if you hope to justify these prices - mediocre pub grub at fine dining prices.
