This hotel has got better and has a much lighter and more modern 'look' (though it IS a very old buidling) since I last stayed there and is definitely the only place to stay in Wick or nearby. Rooms are comfortable and the food is excellent. Book for the Bistro as it gets full. Locals all eat here, not just residents. Staff very good. There is a lift.

    • Disliked — no car park, parking on street is OK but you may have to walk a little bit or get goo dripped on car from trees

“Very hard to fault this hotel”

Mackays Hotel

Sep 1, 2007

As the title above says I find it very hard to fault this hotel. For two nights in August I stayed at Mckays Hotel and was pleasantly surprised with the hotel and the service offered. The hotel is obviously run by professionals who take pride in their hotel. The Manager was helpful and courtesy without being patronising. My bedroom, although small, was comfortable and fitted out to a high standard. Breakfast was tasty and for those wanting a cooked meal offered a good selection all cooked to order. The hotel is well located in the centre of town.

We stayed at this hotel for one night before crossing to the Orkneys and found it a really pleasant place to stay. The room was clean and comfortable and nicely furnished. Useful to have wi-fi in the room too.

The Bistro was very busy, so be sure to book a table when you arrive, as tables were filled as soon as they were vacated.

“No 1 Bistro superb”

The food at the No1 bistrot was really superb. For somewhere in a location like Wick to serve delicious and fresh food rather than just plump for the standard 'something fried served with chips' is great. The Cullen Skink soup and veggie souffle were super and the service was reallly friendly and professional. My only regret was not staying in the hotel.

“Friendly Staff and Excellent Food”

The staff at Mackays typify what's nice about the people in this part of Scotland.Nothing is too much trouble and their politeness and friendly manner comes naturally. My room was comfortable and very clean with all mod cons. The bistro serves first class fare
and is busy anytime I've been there. The staff are what really makes this hotel and are to be highly commended and it's no surprise that this hotel is recommended by so many people.
