I rate this place as the first place I have ate in caithness in 3 years I have found worth eating at for food quality,
qaint hotel and the posh eating area is small but classy. I found out you need to book and I did not know that. I went here spur of moment after I got bailed on my birthday by a friend. on my birthday last minute.
I had a steak which was very good and cute little mini fryer basket with chips in it.
I think the staff could have checked more though on asking if I need drink
. It was my birthday and during that hour I had one drink.i was in a rush as had concert to see so I found it irritating the serving wait even to the bill at the end. The waitres. Didnt thank me for the tip either. I dont generally tip with slow service. I did have to raise my voice to someone every time to get my order taken, my starter, dinner and desert. So wait still could be doing with being more attentive
Diwndide the dated music drove me craxy, the crying child that would not shut up crying. Parents should take the child out so peo9le can eat in peace.
I think a seperate family eating idea is a good idea.
one of my pet hates in caithness is whining, crying, screaming kids. Usually because parents cant teach their kids some manners.
This hotel a quaint typically british style in back area where I had to eat because I hadnt booked.
more modern near the front.
good was fresh, steak best ive tasted since texas and decent thickness too just succulent.
now for je thry came out with a plate with happy birthday on it as a surprise. nthat was sweet and made me smile.
the thing that lets them down was the slow service and the deserts are an absolute dissapointment in choice for me.
I want a nice big tasty cake for desert. The price of deserts was shocking and gor first time ever on my birthday I did not get desert. I thought the choices were not enough and the type of deserts poor.
I have been unable to get a great desert yet in 3 years of living in caithness.
caithness is very poor for food quality to me so much so I dont eat out.
However Mackays would definitely be THE only place I would chose to eat in wick. Although pricey for wick the quality of dinner is high. That will be my place to eat in future can only hope they have bigger, tastier deserts. A posh few choices and a regular decent size real desert list would be great. I love a great slice big fat cake for desert, or a nice pie like pecan pie, lemon meringue.
I saw nothing that appealed to me a little bizarre the deserts to be honest.
the coffee and petite four was cheapest thing and those were not barely even bite size, at almost 5 quid for cup of coffee and 2 tiny petite petite four. Dissapointing to me for deserts.
For dinners and starters would highly recommend this place to eat.
YOU MUST BOOK I did not know that so its good to pass that along.
classy place to eat in front modern booked area. For sure 9 out of ten for Caithness classy the front modern dining area.
if I eat out it will be here, I chose fresh delicious real food over chemical MSG laddened indiwj or chinese anyday,
20 pounds for steak meal to me is what I expected.
I ended up in here by chance. Mackays for food quality i would highly recommend. The norsemanfor sunday lunch is the only other place I would eat. Its pure foods, sunday roast style food. During wek I recommend mackays.
I take quality over the rest of the sub standatd places I have tried in Caithness.
I am fussy about food quality and mackays makes the grade for high quality true decent food. I will be backnto Mackays again.
they have music jights too at times asva music blogger I will have to try check thosebout.
