Thurso is a great, friendly wee town.

We stayed at The Pentland Hotel on Thu 1 June 2006.
We had booked The Royal (across the aquare), but they lost the booking, or something, so we stayed in The Pentland for one night, and The Royal for one night.

The Pentland Hotel is a nice hotel. The public areas look nice, and the reception was friendly. It is central and within walking distance of the train station, and the shops.
The room was fine. It had a comfy bed, small bathroom, tea/coffee and kettle, table and chairs. Also, big bonus, it had a freeview box connected to the TV (free extra tv channels) - so we had a good choice of channels and good reception.
The breakfast was buffet style for cereals and juice, and we ordered the cooked breakfast - a great big plateful - very nice.

The room rate was about £80 a night.

I would certainly stay here again, and not The Royal.


NB: Also, if you are looking for good value, tasty dinner at night. Try Charlie Chans chinese restaurant round the corner. Good staff, really tasty food.

So - you get to the top of the UK - miles away from anywhere, and anyone. You might expect there to be very little in the way of quality accomodation - WRONG! The Pentland is fantastic - a clean, tidy, nicely decorated hotel, with excellent food and helpful friendly staff. This was the best hotel I stayed in during an eight day trip round the UK and Ireland.
