My wife and I have stayed at Forss Country House Hotel twice a year for the past number of years. We live in Northern Ireland but have family in Caithness and use Forss House when visiting them. The base line was very good, as far back as the late 1990s. However, the hotel has, in recent years, enjoyed some well targeted investment - particularly in upgrading the accommodation. Staying at Forss House is simply not the usual hotel experience! Business means we are away from home too many nights a year in impersonal moediocre hotels. Arriving at Forss House is more like visiting well regarded friends - you actually look forward to it! The hotel is extremely well managed by Anne MacKenzie and her assistant Fiona MacKay. They are warm , friendly, courteous and above all welcoming. The meals are first class. Breakfast in the conservatory is memorable. Readers who are used to queueing up at a buffet for breakfast will delight in the local freshly cooked produce. Dinner is equally good with an emphasis on local produce - the chef certainly knows how to cook it! Some contributors have noted that the dinner menu is limited / does not change regularly. At Forss House, however, just let them know if you want something that's not on the menu and they will be delighted to cook it for you. Forss House is an exceptionally good, well managed hotel. I recommend it very highly.
