“A good option”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2014

If you are not after views (I was not) then you could do worse than staying at the Park. The staff are pleasant and the food is very good too. I would definitely recommend the Scottish breakfast which was, quite simply, an absolute triumph.
The rooms are comfortable and it was absolutely spotless; the bathroom looked like it had recently been refurnished. The shower was great. Wifi a tad iffy but then you don't go to this part of Scotland for the wifi!
I would stay here again.

Thankyou for your lovely review. We tend to put business customers in the new business rooms at the rear of the premises with the bigger desks, power showers and options for a quick exit. Our upper floor rooms with view are mainly allocated to visitors so they may have the outlook over our little town which business customers are not so bothered about. For various reasons it doesnt work 100% of the time but we do try to do our best for all of our guests

The staff at this hotel could not be more friendly, accommodating and helpful, 5* service, thank-you to all!
I have just used this hotel for a 2 day training event, overall the hotel provides the facilities required, although I would only recommend for informal events, as they do not have separate training facilities (an area in the dining room is used) and this could be problematic if the hotel is busy. It was quiet when we were there so did not cause us problems.
The dinner menu is of a high standard, all delegates commented on the quality and standard of the evening meals and how much they enjoyed them. Their sweets are a must! The chef also prepared food as required to meet the needs of our vegetarian and dairy free delegates.
The accessible room has a fully accessible wet floor shower and is suitably arranged with plenty of space for ease of use for one or more wheelchair users, however the disabled car park and access may be a little challenging and the individual may require assistance. The hotel however have welcomed our comments for improvement, and I'm sure with their caring and pleasurable attitude will do what they can to improve their facilities.
Overall I would recommend this hotel if you are visiting the area. The positive and accommodating attitude of the staff will easily resolve any minor issues anyone would have with access!
The hotel is easily accessed from Thurso train station, 5 mins in a taxi or a pleasant 10-15 minute walk via the river.

Room Tip: Rooms to the front of the hotel will provide you with a great view of the town. The fully accessible...

Thank you very much for your very kind review. I was not here myself but it is very good to know that everybody was as helpful and efficient as they are when i am here. The only point I would like to clarify is that we do have a dedicated training room but as it is on an upper floor and some of your delegates could not access it we moved you to the dining room on the ground floor. Hope to see you all again

Stayed for a couple of nights in March. Generally reception staff help full/friendly but on a couple of occasion was greeted with abruptness! Single room was ok, very noisy though & sleep was disturbed on several occasions. Carpet did not look like it had been hoovered. Food, terrible, presentation & quality & there was a lack of waiting staff on @ night. I will not be returning to this hotel.

I find this review baffling. I checked this lady in myself and arranged special bread for her and we discussed dinner options. She chose one of our best selling items and when she only ate half of it she told the waitress it was fine but just too much for her. It wasnt a busy night for residents so it was quiet upstairs and her room is a quiet area so what the disturbance was is a mystery and she certainly did not mention it to anyone. Carpets are always hoovered when guests vacate their rooms ready for the next guest. We are a friendly team and are very approachable and give out lots of information and help to our guests when asked. This guest kept very much to herself and we did not wish to push ourselves on her.

Good stuff first. Nice evening meal. Cooked breakfast fine . Girl who served in the morning very nice. But please no tinned grapefruit segments.
Not so good -
Reception welcome - hmmm lady looked annoyed . Told us to stay put until she was ready to tell us more.
Room - cold . Heating went off overnight. Bathroom shower needed cleaned . Toe clippings in the shower and bedroom. Poor wifi.
Evening meal - are we ready to order? No. We hadn't seen menus. We were told the menu was on the sideboard. Plain rude. Had to find someone to take our order.
Bar - cold . Had to find someone to serve us. Colleague had to ask for slices of lemon for a G and T.
I just felt with staff training and upgrading on housekeeping performance , this could be really good.

Thankyou for your positive comments re dinner and breakfast. Now the details- tinned grapefruit may not be to your taste or mine but I can assure you it goes quickly. The receptionist, who is certainly NOT a grumpy person, only asked your quite sizeable group to wait until everyone had their keys so she could explain a few items to everyone all at same time. The heating had been on since the afternoon but does indeed go off overnight- does anyone really leave it on in this day & age? The waiting staff had explained to the first members of the group to arrive in the dining room the menus along with the specials board positioned on the sideboard so no-one missed anything but it would seem the message was not passed on. Your group took more than 20 minutes to assemble and the staff had other customers to see to so could not stand waiting. The poor wifi is unfortunately the norm here. Toe clippings in the shower are mystifying as the showers had been steam cleaned the day before but occasionally these small things are missed and it is a rare occurance. As your group left a sizeable tip it could be assumed the lapses were very minor

We visited here on 21st March for a 2 night stay and we really enjoyed it.

There was a small mix up at check in The hotel had us booked for 21st Feb, not 21st March - there was a brief moment of panic from us but the lady on reception was fantastic and didn't bat an eye, she took forward our booking and that was that! great!

We had a groupon deal which was £100 ish for 2 nights B&B plus 1 night evening meal - we weren't expecting much for this price but were really really happy with everything the hotel had to offer.

The food was lovely with a wide varied breakfast choices and the evening meals were really tasty too.

The rooms (we had room 3) were basic but spotless, the bed was massive and very comfortable, they had tea and coffee making facilities and an iron / ironing board - they also had a hair dryer and small TV - shower gel and liquid soap was also there, plenty of towels - and the welcome pack was really informative, they also offered WiFi free of charge.

The staff were very friendly - I couldn't fault any of them.

The hotel is a great location to go to John O'Groats - we also wen't along to Smoo Cave (which is a must if you're up that way).

There is a Tesco just near the hotel if you need supplies of any sort.

If we go back up that way - we'd use this hotel again!

Reception staff very good, room good, everything worked ok in the bathroom, evening meals were good particularly the fried haddock, service variable. Highlight was the breakfast which was cooked to order and the choice included smoked haddock with poached eggs and smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. These were very good indeed. A good 3 star hotel that would be improved by having a real ale on tap.

Stayed at this hotel as it has great links to the ferry terminal to Orkney, this hotel was very well presented and the food was absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommend the Cajun chicken.
The staff will go out there way to make you're stay as comfortable as possible, we will be staying here every time we are using the ferry service.
