My girlfriend and I stayed there for a short while as part of our holiday seeing the north of england and scotland as we fancied an activity break in aviemore.. considered staying at a couple of other hotels but id stayed here before during xmas a few years ago, and remembered their amazing breakfasts... rooms were lovely, staff were great, and the food! Easily the best we had all holiday. we eat out a lot, and have been to the likes of /nobu, Latelier etc, but i have to say this is the best value for money food ive had.. generous portions, amazing taste, and its the little details that really makes the food wonderful. i would advise prebooking dinner and arriving on time as its well known in the area..

the building has a fair bit of history, being over 300 years old, and in all that time being a coach inn so you still see some lovely details like wood beams etc. rooms are clean, and have all the mdoern conveniences. im 6ft4 and often find it difficult to fit in showers and baths but managed it no problem!

this is the sort of place you can stay with family and friends and have a really lovely time. will definetly be going again

ps little nugget here. if you ask, there's a big beautiful lake (or loch as they say in scotland) round the back, and it really is nice for a little romantic stroll around :-)

We were attending a wedding in Nethybridge, and were unhappy with the accomodation we booked there.
After a number of phone calls I spoke to the lady at the ROWANTREE, she was courteous and very helpful and invited us to come and view the room, even though it was after 11pm by this point.
After viewing several rooms we persuaded another two couples to switch accomodation to the Rowantree simply by showing them a pic taken on a mobile phone!

We stayed one night, in the room described as "terrible" in another review, room 14.
It was great,! THE best bed I have slept in in any hotel, soft and comfy with feather pillows and duvet, its just a shame the checkout is so early, I'd have stayed in the bed all day.
Furnishings in the rooms I saw were modern, and tasteful, and chosen to fit in the space avaiable.
The lounge, bar and reception were all fresh, welcoming and the staff friendly. In the morning, breakfast is served, but there is also a "help yourself" to juices, fruit cocktail, cereals etc.

Having read other reviews that have negative comments, I really cannot understand peoples problems, yes its right on a road, but its an old coach inn, and its hardly the A9, its a backroad, and very quiet. Yes the rooms are not all en suite, but its an old building, and the bathrooms are no more than three steps from the rooms that are not.
As for the moans about the staff being dour, I can only think they perhaps treat as they find, as I thought they were great, unlike another B+B who when I phoned at 1030pm looking for accomodation for the next day, asked me what I was doing phoning at that hour and hung up on me!

All in all, I would recommend this accomodation to any couple looking for a couple of nights away and only a few minutes outside aviemore, its ideal as a base for exploring the area.

We received a very warm, relaxed welcome by Steven. Our large room with a super kingsize bed had the "wow" factor. Very tastefully decorated, and three big windows overlooking Loch Alvie and the surrounding beautiful scenery. The location is quiet and peaceful. The bed was the most comfortable we have slept in of the many hotels we have stayed in over the years. We couldn't get the huge flat-screen tv on, and it was no trouble to Steven to get it sorted for us. The breakfasts were first class, and although we didn't dine there in the evening, there were wonderful aromas coming from the dining room as we went out. This hotel should be a "five star" An excellent place!

Hotel surprisingly surrounded by houses on 2 sides & right on main route. Very rude comments from woman on reception as we booked in. She merely gave us the keys & told us where the room was. Deposited our belongings quickly & left hotel. Didn't have time to check room out properly as had an appointment to go to. On return late evening noticed stairway was shabby/dusty. Drab/dusty/old fashioned pink room which had stains on pillowcase/carpet/walls. No bath. Merely a tiny shower room with a shower so small our 11 year old struggled to fit in. A tiny cupboard was the excuse for a wardrobe. Water in kettle-no idea how long it had been there. Whole room vibrated when traffic passed. Fold-down bed was so small/hard our child ended up sleeping in our bed. Woken at 7am by people above talking. Top drawer breakfast & polite young girl only positives. When checking out same woman on reception merely told us how much we owed. No interest in how our stay had been. Very disppointing experience.

Only stayed one night, but could have stayed forever! Beautiful setting just outside Aviemore away from all the tourists, but less than 2 miles from the centre. The attention to detail in the rooms here is second to none, the bed was wonderful, fluffy towels, a cafetierre for coffee in the room.
We ate in the restaurant and the food was outstanding, the people who own it are so friendly and make it feel like a home from home. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and we will be back

Nice wee hotel, out from Aviemore but hardly faraway. The food was amazing, even the breakfast was lovely. The room was clean and warm, however I would say it doesn't seem to match the internet site it has, its kind of new meets old stuff that granny has in the back room but it was clean and the bed was super comfy. Sometime staff seemed to disppear but when you ddid catch them theyw ere all very friendly. Good price and I enjoyed the stay. If you don't intend to stay here do at least get a meal here.

When we arrived, we didn't know what to expect. Upon entry, we felt right at home. Our room was comfortable with great views and stocked with afternoon tea and biscuits. When looking to decide where to eat, we looked at their menu. At that point, we knew that we were going to take all meals at the hotel. Dinner didn't disappoint. The food was of the hightest quality and the presentation was absolutely gourmet magazine. The owners and staff were friendly and efficient. We enjoyed our dinners and breakfast the most of any of our other hotels or restaurants throughout Scotland, bar none. Try the porridge with cream and Scottish whiskey!! We can't wait to go back and my husband isn't the biggest travelers in the world. Because of this hotel, he wants to go back.
