We have stayed in the hotel and the chalets. There is no more peaceful feeling than waking early in the morning and opening the curtains to see the ducks and ducklings expectantly waddling to your patio doors for food and attention. The woodland walks around the hotel are excellent and safe. The cleanliness and service are without exception excellent. I would thoroughly recommend this place to anyone looking for relaxation and respite from the strains and rigours of the modern world. The removal of 4 star status is irrelevant as they have always been 5 star hosts to me and my family.

A beautiful setting for a lovely hotel, the food was excelent and the owners, Alison and Lindsay, were so friendly and chatty. One small criticism 'though - the soundproofing between our room and the one above was non existant (we could hear one of the guests upstairs snoring!) but, on the whole, we had a great time and we will certainly be back.

We have just returned after a 2 night break to the Fairwinds to celebrate our 25th Wedding anniversary. The service was superb, Alyson and Lyndsay made the whole experiance very personal and romantic for us. The superior room was fantastic ,the bed was so big ,I woke up during the night and wondered where my husband was as I couldnt feel him right next to me!
The food was outstanding, fresh home cooked produce, lovely choice. The breakfasts were outstanding especially watching the Red Squirrels eat theirs as we ate ours!
We will certinly choose the Fairwinds again the next time we are staying in the area.

“A Gem”

My girlfriend and I celebrated her 30th birthday here in January. We had a fantastic time; the food really was outstanding, the 'superior' room was warm, clean and comfortable with a lovely en suite, and the peaceful scenery around the hotel made us feel miles from the city- it made a great base for exploring the Cairngorms. However, what made this small hotel stand out from many others was the efforts made by Lindsay and Alison to ensure that our stay was truely memorable.

We spent 3 days at Fairwinds as a group of four. This was a lovely cosy hotel where you were made to feel very welcome. It was close to achieving that one quality which hotels normally can't get near to and that is to make you feel as comfortable as if you were in your own home. Its locality is perfect for Aviemore and all the various outdoor activities in the Cairngorms. And one of the owners is a munro bagger so can help with advice if needed.
The rooms are very comfortable, maybe just a tad old fashioned in places. Some nice touches though such as a nice bit of shortbread to go with your tea/coffee. The food overall was superb (go for the dinner option if you book!), I'm just a bit irritated by the weight I put on even with all the activities we did.
We had a tendency to stay up a bit late to play our board game, but Alison + Lindsay just left us to get on with it and take what we wanted from the well stocked honesty bar.
A very nice welcoming hotel, and one we would heartily recommend.
