After reading some of the reviews here I had to comment in defense of this wonderful hotel. My wife and seven year old son stayed there for three fantastic nights last year. We already have our reservations for next year. The family room we stayed in was recently redone. The standard was high and the room was clean and comfortable. The staff couldn't have been nicer. I will agree it is a family oriented place, but what is so bad about that!! Granted, as some have commented, you might pick a more secluded spot for a romantic getaway with your spouse, but don't blame the Colyumbridge Hilton for your poor planning!! I highly recommend this place as a safe and inviting place to bring your wife and kids. And if you don't have one or the other but still like being around the living, come anyway!!

My husband and I stayed at the Coylumbridge...not realising beforehand that it was such a family orientated hotel...as we were on a romantic few days away (without our children!), it was disappointing that the hotel seemed to be overrun with kids...to the extent that we chose not to spend our evenings in the lounge and bar areas, and instead, took our drinks up to our room. We had booked a suite for our stay, which was well equipped, spacious and clean. The public areas of the Hotel are well maintained and tidy. Reception staff are helfpul - my husband had the misfortune to fall ill while we were staying and they assisted us in contacting the local Doctor. The food in the main restaurant is buffet style for dinner, which was certainly not appealing and we chose to eat in the smaller restaurant, which was waiter service (a bit slow mind you)...food ok, but nothing special. If you are looking for a good value, fun holiday with the kids, then this is the place to come - they are certainly geared up for children with plenty of activities and a "fun house".

We have just returned from a weekend break at this hotel. We have, stayed here three times over the last ten years. In that time not much has changed. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms leave a lot to be desired, ours had mould growing at the windows, dirty curtains, dirty carpet, peeling bathroom roof, broken tiles in bathroom, I could go on. {The hotel is to undergo a refurbishment over the next three years, long awaited!}
If you have children who are under five, you really have to take them to the children's high tea they don't get a choice when they have to sit with you at your meal. I don't know of many children who would eat, pate, mackerel, lamb etc, saying that though the meals are well presented and cater to the adult taste.The breakfast is suberb, a great choice for all nationalities.
The pool is satisfactory, mouldy around the tiles {i think this is going to be upgraded though}If your children are over five they can join the Coylum capers club, although they need to have a parent present until the age of eight. There seemed to be plenty for the children to do.
The hotel is three star status { not four} sometimes the prices can be a bit steep if you are taking children { it is supposed to be a family hotel though}Roll on the refurb!

We read the variety of reviews on this hotel before going there for an eight day break earlier this month (if we had read the reviews before booking we might have been more in two minds about it, but we were looking for something that would please our two early teenage sons, so the facilities seemed good)
The earlier reviews we read sum up the hotel perfectly - a mix of the good (sometimes very good) - great breakfasts, excellent service from the receptionists and the 'activities' staff (especially the pool and organised games staff), pretty good amenities (Fun House, tennis courts etc even though you had to pay extra on top of what was already a pretty expensive daily rate) - and the mediocre - no air conditioning in the rooms (which were generally pretty basic in terms of facilities and decoration), no refrigerator, minute second (child's) toilet, limited internet access (only one terminal that broke down for three days of our visit), generally poor service in the dining room (it seemed as though the regular coach parties passing through had the benefit of the better service) and, on the whole, unimaginative food at dinner time.
What made the holiday was the exquisite scenery and the other locally available activities although again these were expensive, presumably because there is a captive market.
An enjoyable holiday then, and we would certainly visit the region again even though we might look for other accommodation that would hopefully reflect the four stars that Hilton Coylumbridge aspires to.

This hotel was brilliant and extremely suitable for families.

The staff could not have been better and the leisure facilities were superb. My children were of mixed ages 7 to 14 and they all thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and the skiing!

Restaurant was very good and a nice bar layout.

All in all we were very well looked after and we cannot wait to return.
