“Intersting centre in great surroundings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

This visitor centre is set into a beautiful part of Abernethy Forest which has many lovely walking trails. Great information centre with volunteers on hand to tell you what's been happening with the resident osprey family and chicks during the breeding season(end of March to August). There are binoculars trained onto the nest itself so you don't need to have your own and a live webcam gives up to the minute info on anything thats happening around the nest. If you are lucky you may also get to see Capercaillie - they have an early morning watch in April so its worth getting out of bed to try and get a glimpse of this rare bird. Across the road from the visitor centre is beautiful Loch Mallachie and I would recommend driving to the car park nearby where you get a good view of the loch a nice walk and some beautiful views - great if you are into photography. The bird feeders at the Visitor Centre are also good for seeing red squirrels, woodpeckers and other birds. There are toilet facilties at the centre and its fully wheelchair accessible.

“Ospreys - and a lot more”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

Superbly equipped to enjoy the sight of nesting ospreys, Loch Garten has long been one of the most prominent of the RSPB reserves. The story of the return of ospreys to Scotland to breed and the RSPB's struggle to beat egg collectors is very well told. The RSPB staff and volunteers are brilliant. But don't just visit the visitor centre - a walk through the pine forest to the shores of the loch is wonderful.

“Great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

We visited the centre twice and went on a booked walk with the reserve manager. The whole experience was superb. Brilliant volunteers and staff as you would expect from the RSPB. Extremely informative, great tips on where to go, loads of scopes to check out the Osprey which we just caught just before their migration. We saw two juveniles and the father on the nests. there was a red Squirrel on the bird feeders. I highly recommend the guided walk (Wednesday tours). We were given a fascinating insight into the management and saw Crested Titmice, Creeping Ladies Tresses and a cracking view of a Roe Deer buck. This was the final tour of the year and most of the summer migrants had departed so definitely worth visiting in Spring/Summer for Redstarts, Goldeneye and Capercaillie.
