What a great evening. Better than I expected. The hide is amazing. Comfortable and warm and although there were 10 of us it didn't feel cramped at all. Didn't have to wait long for the red deer to arrive. One being nicknamed " asbo" because he hoovered up most of the bait. So our guide ad to re-bait the area. Then quickly followed at least 7 badgers all enjoying their supper. A couple of mice kept s entertained also while we waited for the star turn. A female pine marten arrived firstly doing a great meerkat impression before tucking in to a feast on the table. Spectacular however she soon got spooked by the badgers and played hide and seek up a tree for about 20 mins before deciding it was safe to come back down for her second course. All in all a great event and I would recommend this to anyone interested in seeing wildlife up close and personal.

“Great way to spend an evening!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011 via mobile

We have just come back from a weekend in Aviemore and decided to visit the hide while we were there. It was a wonderful experience, there were only 3 of us in the group so we could move around the hide freely to get the best views & photos. We'd only waited about half an hour when the first badger appeared and a mouse which didn't hang around long. More badgers subsequently came though as others left and hoovered up the peanuts. The last one left abou 10pm but was shortly followed by a roe deer. We then had a wait of about half an hour again where all eyes were on the egg! Finally just before we were about to leave at 11pm, a female pine marten appeared. All in all if you love wildlife this is a great experience as the animals come up very close and have no idea you are there. Our guide was also very informative and answered any questions we had.

“A top quality 7 day holiday for wildlife viewing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2011

Summer Mammals and More.
We have just returned from an excellent holiday with Speyside Wildlife, despite the Scottish weather. The knowledge and skills of the guides, coupled with the use of local resources, meant that we were lucky enough to see most of the target mammals and birds in their wild state. I use the term lucky, because nothing is guaranteed when wildlife watching and a large amount of patience is required but the rewards (Pine Marten, Badgers, Otter, Red Squirrels, White-tailed Eagle, Common and Bottlenose dolphins, Tawny Owl) and many other birds and mammals were worth the wait.
There were informal review sessions every other night after dinner, to enable guests to note down where they had been and what was seen at each place which we found extremely useful.
Other points to mention.
• The week had a full itinerary, with quite a lot of travelling but there were plenty of planned comfort breaks and the guides were both happy to put in extra’s when needed. The catering was excellent with a good range of choice for all meals including packed lunches.
• Meal times are shared with guests and guides around a large communal table which was a good way to get to know other people better and of course, put the world to rights. Packed lunches were prepared by the superb cooks, and were ‘personalised’ according to preference.
• Travelling and mealtimes mean that you do mix extensively with the other guests, 10 in our case with 2 guides, Craig and John, which for our week were a mixture of experienced wildlife watchers and beginners like ourselves. We found this to be a real bonus. The guides were incredibly supportive and sensitive to individual needs, they were both extremely professional, good humoured and were able to impart their wisdom and extensive knowledge to meet the needs of the experienced and the inexperienced. We learned loads and also really enjoyed their company.
• A lot of people worry about biting insects in the summer months in Scotland, and whereas we did go to areas where there were a lot of midges, it was never a problem for long. Although we would suggest a good repellent and possibly a head net, however we didn’t need to use ours.
We would recommend this holiday to anybody with an interest in Scottish animals and birds, who enjoy the company of others and are willing to make the most of the many opportunities that are available.

“Magic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2011

This was amazing. Seeing Pine Martens and Badgers so close was truly inspiring. A fantastic hide and an excellent guide led to a wonderful evening. Also saw Roe Deer and a toad! We could not believe that the animals could come so close without suspecting our presence. Would recommend this to anyone.

“Egg thief stole the show”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2011

Excellent evening seeing 7 badgers and, after a bit of waiting, the egg thief ..also known as the pine marten which whizzed through to pinch the egg, then came back for longer at midnight. The animals come very close to the hide which is comfortable and roomy. You can whisper away quite happily and not frighten the wildlife too. Our guide was very knowledgeable which added to the evening which was one of the highlights of my brother's visit to Scotland.
