Description: We use some of Scotland's best local produce to create healthy, wholesome & interesting food with a Kiwi twist. We opened our doors in 2004 and have been gaining awards and accolades for our antipodean style coffees, delicious breakfasts, superb lunches & fresh home baking ever since. Our service is friendly & casual with a professional team from all over the world. The café offers excellent views of the Cairngorm Mountains - enjoy our balcony area during summer and the cosy log burner to sit by during the winter months. All the pictures are of our food - why not come in and sample our hospitality when you are in the area next?

“A long wait to be let down”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

This is a very popular cafe and there really aren't many places in the north of Scotland that offer such a good selection of casual food - it is perfect for the typical outdoor visitors to Aviemore. We didn't wait long for a table but it seemed like forever for the breakfasts to arrive and when they did some of it was burned black and much of it overcooked - it was all heaped up and covered with a perfectly-cooked egg. The pleasant waitress was apologetic but I can't understand why it ever left the kitchen, this was disappointing after a long wait and I left feeling they are just a bit greedy and either don't have enough staff or try to cram in too many tables for the kitchen capacity. Sad really as places with a bit of style are a rare thing around here - I'll assume from other reviews that mine was an unusual experience.

“Always Great Food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

We have been back here again for breakfast is morning and both food and service were excellent as is the norm for the Mountain Cafe! Well worth a visit even if you have to wait for a table, the wait is worth it.

“cake heaven!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

What a superb range of cakes! So many to chose from, including the biggest selection of gluten-free cakes & biscuits I have ever seen! 3 of us had a different cake each and they were all fabulous! The staff are very welcoming and pleasant, and there is a great view too.

“Delicious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013 via mobile

Visited twice. First time for coffee and cake, which was melt in the mouth. We then went back for breakfast. I had the French toast with bacon, banana and fruits. This was possibly the most delicious breakfast I had ever experienced! Staff were all very pleasant and efficient. Well worth queuing for.

“Once again, outstanding food worth waiting for.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

A couple of years after our first visit we went for lunch and had a lengthy queue on the stairs until we were seated. We knew we'd be waiting and were prepared, however it would be nice to a) have a menu to look over; and b) have someone pop out from time to time to give us their best estimates on waiting time. I know you can't guarantee how long it will take for tables to leave, but if a whole bunch of tables have just sat down the wait is clearly going to be longer than if tables are finishing pots of tea. If we know the wait is going to be around 30 minutes, we can at least take it in turns to wander round the shop downstairs and queue (and people with young children can find ways to keep them occupied).

Despite the business, service was relatively quick and we didn't wait long for the food, which as always was amazing. Sweetcorn fritters for myself and a veggie burger for my partner, with a couple of scones to take away.

When in Aviemore, undoubtedly we will be back, and I will continue to recommend the cafe to my friends (which is how I heard about the cafe in the first place).
