“Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

We have stayed at High Range 3 times, always in Glenmore Chalet. Basic but clean, nice bed linen. Staff very helpful. Helpful to less able people. Will be going again. Close to Aviemore and all the attractions in the area. I would like to see information kept in the chalets re telephone numbers for Doctors, Dentists, Hospitals etc.

Room Tip: Ask questions, staff very helpful.

Being staying here at least 2 times a year for the last 4 years. Just a 5 minute stroll into the centre of town, it's close enough but not to close to the shops ect which gives it a peaceful setting. Chalets are pretty basic, clean and have plenty of parking. Price is pretty good if 4 sharing, Italians restaurant is 2 mins away which is handy for a Meal or even a pint. If staying at the chalets at the tree line keep a eye out for the local red squirrels and grouse which was great to just watch from the windows. All and all really great wee place, go and enjoy!!!

Me and my family have been going to the high range chalets 4 years ago and have loved it each time. Our recent visit was a 4 night stay for the jubilee weekend and we got a great price and has a great time. If your looking for accomidation for a decent price that is close to the centre of aviemore this place is right for you. We have stayed in most 2 bedroom chalets and all are of a good size and are very comfortable for the money. We are looking forward to coming back again for the september weekend and will be staying in the high range chalets. The chalets are right up the road from the La Taverna which is a family run italian restraurant and is very handy if you just want a drink at the bar, a takeaway or a good meal.

overall we would recommend this high range chalets to anyone who is looking for reasonably priced and comfortable accomidation.

Stayed for 5 nights in late Jan/early Feb in a 1 bed chalet. Great value, did the job, would stay again. We managed 2 days skiing and 2 days of walking/biking in Rothiemurchus Forest.

The only negative point I'd make was that there was a slight smell of tobacco smoke in the living area. We only noticed it when we walked in after being out for a while, so it wasn't strong. But the chalet was clean and comfortable, and the heating was good.

The Taverna was handy and the buffet good value.

location was fab, staff very nice, bedrooms were very clean, bad news living room was stinking, the carpet still had the previous dog smell on it, out of four seats in the living room all were stinking.i had to buy febreeze to try and get rid of smell, all clothing had to be washed if you sat down. The disable shower was clean shame there was no pressure with the water.we paid £300 so was not a cheapie. I am an asthmatic and asked all the usual questions about pillows etc but my asthma was so bad with said carpet we thougth about leaving. After reading other reviews i thought yippee but never again.
ps cabins are within touching distance of each other,we had to keep curtains closed for privacy

Room Tip: motel was busy try it, may be better than cabins

I stayed in one of the smallest chalets on a midweek special offer with linens and electricity included in the price. This was an amazing bargain as the price would have been a good one for the accommodation alone; the chalet was cosy and the linens provided of a very good quality. There was ample storage space and the location provided a feeling of complete tranquility and seclusion; the joyously bright Alpine exterior offset by an internal colour scheme so soothing in its soft earth and heather tones that one could feel instantly absorbed and cradled in the peace of the beautiful surrounding wooded slopes. The rural quiet helps to guarantee a good night's sleep in the extremely comfortable bed and it is a real pleasure to sit on the generously sized balcony with a cup of coffee or a wee dram, watching the world awaken or settle into the twilight. Rabbits and squirrels run freely about the grounds and are a delight to watch as are the many species of birds. The excellent and convivial on-site restaurant La Taverna offers a very good value takeaway menu as well as its extensive dine-in options; enjoying a glass of wine in the bar as the pizza is freshly prepared, then taking it back to the comfort of your chalet is an ideal way to relax especially on your first evening. High Range itself is a convenient base from which to enjoy the many activities in the area; it is right at the junction of the ski road and the main road through Aviemore, yet it feels completely secluded and "away from it all". On the practical side, be prepared to bring or buy your own washing up liquid etc for self catering accommodation; one toilet roll is provided but everything else is up to you, which no doubt helps to keep the prices so very reasonable and the special offers as extensive as they are.

I can't say enough about High Range. The team here, especially Monika, are friendly, helpful and go out of their way to make sure you have a good time. The toilet block is immaculately clean at all times and the washer/dryer is big and powerful. The cabins are exactly what you'd want for the skifields - cosy with great heating but good air flow too so it doesn't get too stuffy. You can walk into town in just a few moments and the Taverna is on the corner for delicious traditional pizza. There are daffodils sprouting all over the campsite and cabin grounds and the snow covered mountains are our view. Loads to do in Aviemore town and up the mountain. We had friends stay in a bigger cabin and we stayed in the smaller one and we were all really happy. We would always come back here!
