Finding a restaurant when travelling with children is never easy! We arrived in Aviemore in the evening and whilst we could have chosen the hotel restaurant we decided to try out the La Taverna, knowing that even the children would find something they liked to eat.
We arrived around 9pm and the place was packed. Despite having no reservations we seated within 5 minutes and discovered they offered an "All You Can Eat" buffet. Reasonably priced and lots of varieties of pizzas and pastas.
The kids (of course) skipped the salad bar and tucked in to garlic breads. The starters were very good and not the normal (boring) selections. The main course pizza was an instant hit with everyone. Thin bases, generous toppings and not too much tomato sauce!
Children + Pizza + "All You Can Eat" = Just one more slice.
By the time you reach desert you have probably already eaten too much, but there is always room for a slice of chocolate cake. The kids enjoyed the jellies!
After the success of the first night we were all keen to go back (we were only in Aviemore for two nights before moving on). Again we arrived without booking (Friday) and we were instantly recognised from the night before, which surprised me considering the kids behaved themselves and also how many customers this restaurant gets. Unfortunately the waiting time was going to be 45 minutes because of coach load of teenagers, so we decided to have a look elsewhere. It took us 20 minutes to decide that the other restaurants were not what we were looking for (one of which doesn't even accept credit cards!!). On our return we were seated immediately.
I would love to tell you about their fantastic menu, but, to be honest I didn't even look at the menu as we again opted for the buffet.
Generally Avimore is a bit more expensive than other places but this restaurant is not. I think the buffet was £12.95 per adult but less for children (£8??), but it is only available until 10pm.
Our visit was at a time when the ski season was finished, so it is likely that we visited at a quiet time. If you want to eat here and are staying locally, then book first.
