“Attentive service, food was lovely at excellent price!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

I booked a table for myself & 2 of my Sales staff to end off the working year as a treat for their hard work.

We dined from the Festive menu which I had booked on 5pm online. The menu had a great choice & the price was excellent.

From the moment we walked in the door our waiter was brilliant- I wish I had got his name- young guy with strawberry blonde hair, anyway he was great!

The 3 of us all loved every course & would highly recommend this restaurant.
My favourite was the pumpkin soup & the Lamb shoulder- amazing!
The choice of warm breads were all great- I was very greedy & tried all 3.

Atmosphere was festive but very relaxed & cozy.

Looking forward to returning after our next successful quarter!

“Lovely food and service followed by a verbal Maule-ing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2013

Chardon D'or was top of our list this year for a festive meal. After reading reviews on Trip Advisor and hearing of praise via word of mouth, myself and 8 colleagues decided to try it out. On organising the evening over the phone, the staff were exceedingly helpful and offered us a private suite due to the size of our party (10 of us). Throughout the meal our glasses were kept full by the very helpful, polite and attentive staff. Issue arose with after-dinner coffees as a latte - in a wine glass - was accidentally spilt down the back of a colleague. The waiter - to his credit - apologised profusely and the manager offered to pay for dry-cleaning of the shirt. We explained that unfortunately the damage had been done but these things do happen. To our shock, we received the bill exactly as it should have been - minus the three lattes. My colleague who had the coffee spilt over him politely asked the manager of the evening if anything could be done about his meal, as the night had had somewhat of a cloud put over it. The manager would consult with Brian Maule - the chef. Mr Maule then left the kitchen to then engage in an argument with 2 members of my party about exactly why nothing would be done about the total of the bill - explaining that "no-one will look at his shirt" and "you lot will be in a nightclub anyway so who cares?" All of this conversation was audible from not only the private suite we were situated in but also in the corridor leading to the bathroom. The culmination of this was Mr Maule shouting at my colleague that he gave the "wrong answer" when saying his meal was "fine" followed by the chef storming off and slamming a door. It is unfortunate that the exceptional service (from the waiting staff) and fantastic food have been somewhat overshadowed by the downright rude nature and bad-handling of the chef. Of course that issues and spillages do happen but it is all about how it is managed and shouting at customers - regardless of age - is unacceptable.

“Probably the best restaurant in Glasgow”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2013

Truly superb food. Ideal for a special occasion or simply just to treat yourselves. Steak is incredible and a decent vegetarian offering.

Service is first class, very sophisticated. Can't recommend highly enough!

On par with top London venues.
Faultless. Quality.

Service from Laura exceptional.
Pre Theatre selection and value for money amazing.

Drinks afterwards in private booth downstairs worth it.

Well done. Take no notice of the cheap reviews on here. It's well worth the visit.

“Still my favourite in Glasgow”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2013 via mobile

Visited on a busy Saturday night with a group of old friends. Took advantage of the pre theatre set menu. £21.95 for three courses is excellent value for money.
Started with a nice pork dish followed by sea bass. Finished with apple crumble. Others had the feta starter, beef main and cheese board to finish.
I've been other times and eaten from the main menu. Yes it's pricey but I think it's worth it and it's supposedly a favourite of Michel Roux jnr and let's face it, he should know what he's talking about!
If you're tight with your wallet then try the pre theatre. But if you are prepared to splash the cash then upgrade to the full menu. It is well worth it.
One wee tip. On a cold night ask to be seated away from the door. Every time it opens it will chill you to the marrow.
