Description: "In the lively, bohemian Port of Leith, Malmaison Brasserie reigns supreme as a superlative place to meet and eat. The highly chic Art Nouveau French brasserie has sleek, stylish decor and actual port views. The staff are passionate about food, wine and service, and the dining room is lit with that brasserie buzz. Malmaison Executive Chef, Roy Brett has overall direction. What's cooking? Inspiration is taken from great 'French brasserie-style dishes' and further enhanced with a unique contemporary twist. Dishes include char-grilled ribeye with cafe de paris butter and fine beans and salmon fishcake with parsley sauce and buttered spinach. For those of you with a sweet tooth, be sure to try the tarte tartin with creme chantilly. "

“Delicious meal and excellent service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

My husband and I dined here after being given given an itison voucher. The service we received was excellent and the food delicious. We were seated in a booth which, although a little dark, was very private. Our deal included steak and frites but waitress was happy to replace the chips with potatoes, the starters and desserts added as extras were also well presented and very tasty. Will definitely return.

“Excellent lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

Using an Itison deal my husband and I travelled from Stonehaven for this lunch and we were not disappointed. The surroundings were good and the staff very attentive. Our deal was steak, chips plus a side salad and a glass of wine or beer. As usual when we have these deals we spend double because we couldn't resist a starter and seeing we were not driving indulged in a bottle of house red wine. My husband had soup and I had the pâté which we both enjoyed. The main course was excellent. The steak was tender and tasty and the real chips were good as well. So even being on a deal this meal was first class so we will certainly be back. Thank you Malmaison for having a high quality of brasserie.

“Midweek Lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

The restaurant was attractive, if a little datk. We were shown to our table promptly by staff and our drinks order was taken. The menu sounded great and it was difficult to decide what to choose. Our waitress answered any queries. We started off with the humus and sourdough bread which was delicious. I had the steak and frites along with a small Ceasar Salad. The meal was excellent. My friend chose the cheese accompanied by a large Ceasar salad which she loved. We finished off with coffees. All in all it was a great lunch and the bottle of house white accompanying it was good value for money. Will definitely return.

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013 via mobile

Very excited to dine here for a friends 50th. Everything was nice enough but to be honest I could get better and cheaper food elsewhere. No music or atmosphere at all and the canapes were some of the worst I have ever tasted. Very overpriced and not worth the visit sorry!

“Looked forward to dining here but overall average.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013 via mobile

After hearing a lot about Malmaison I was excited to try a meal here - we had a deal for two mains and a bottle of wine which we thought was amazing value.

The wine was beautiful and couldn't fault the service, the staff were attentive and polite. We both had steak frites, ordered well done and medium, both came medium rare which was disappointing, would have also expected a salad or something with the meal considering the restaurants reputation. The desert was nice however and the atmosphere was okay, felt a little cramped even though the place didn't seem overly busy.

Wouldn't say this was a bad experience but definitely expected more.
