As a frequent visitor to Scotland, and having stayed at many many Scottish guest houses, the Alamo is my very favorite place to stay--just like home, except better! In the past year, I've enjoyed 3 different rooms at the Alamo--all of which were extremely comfortable, and beautifully appointed. While the ensuite facilities are certainly nice, the shared facilities are spacious, scrupulously clean and quite convenient. The breakfast is tasty with healthy options and the filter coffee a godsend :) The breakfast room is gorgeous from bottom to top (check out the intricate ceiling painted by owner Steve) and from inside to outside--the view of Kelvingrove Park through the beautiful breakfast room windows is amazing in summer or winter. The library of loaner DVD's and encouragement to use the breakfast room in the evening while you enjoy your take-away means that you can enjoy an "evening in" after a long day sightseeing or shopping in Glasgow. The "over the top" aspect of the Alamo Guest House has to be Steve, Emma, and rest of the Alamo staff who are genuinely cheerful and helpful. It is refreshing to find great accommodations at such a reasonable price in a fantastic part of town. Highly recommended!

  • Disliked — That the Alamo is too far from the States to visit more often :)

Disappointed - no full cooked breakfast on offer, the website doesn't mention this & in Scotland it is the least one could expect.
Room no.1(superior room) adequate but far from soundproof - guests check in outside your door and dining room entrance adjacent. Bed comfy, impressive TV, pleasant aspect.

I was looking for a reasonably priced B & B around the university area of Glasgow for a couple of nights. A few caught my eye and I was undecided until I noticed that the Alamo was the only one with NO bad reviews on this site. And now I know why.
I was given a charming room in the basement (full of light with large windows) but the TV wasn't giving a clear picture. I asked for some help to get a better signal and when Steve (the owner) found that there was little improvement he moved me to a double room with an en-suite at no extra charge. How's that for service? Incidentally, had the TV been working properly, I would have been quite happy with my room even though it was one of the many rooms that come with shared bathroom facilities. But don't let that deter you. The place is spotless. Steve and wife Emma are the most charming and interesting people who love to meet people from abroad. Kristen who works there is equally friendly and helpful.
The high ceilinged rooms are lovingly decorated in Victorian fashion to suit the style of the house and the breakfast room is spacious with a lovely bay window.
Lastly, the Alamo overlooks Kelvingrove Park which makes for a pastoral view and peace and quiet around the clock. Kelvingrove Gallery situated in the park is also a beautiful backdrop when this 18th century sandstone museum is lit up at night.
In short, don't hesitate. It's a great find.

This guest house is very nice, comfortable and clean. Steve and Emma are very kind and helpfull. They make me and my boyfriend feel at home.
I suggest stay here everybody. Ah...is also near to the city center and in front of the Alamo there is The Kelvingrov Park...the biggest and most beautifull park in Glasgow!

The Alamo Guest House is an excellent option for your stay in Glasgow. The location is great. Right across the street from Kelvingrove Park and an easy stroll down Sauchiehall Street to the center of town. We stayed in the newly renovated front room and found it to be quite large, well decorated, with great light, and a wonderful view. The inn keepers are very kind and helpful, and they make a tasty breakfast to start your day off right. I can't recommend the Alamo Guest House enough, you will not be disappointed.
