We went to Scotland for a wedding and used Glasgow as our home base.

From the first email I sent to enquire about availability, until the moment we checked out (after 9 nights) the service was impeccable.

Steve and Emma were helpful, patient, knowledgeable, friendly and hospitable during our entire stay. We had a ton of questions, as we had never been to the area before, and they never made us feel like we were being a bother.

The Alamo is clean, comfortable and is beautifully decorated with meticulously hand painted ceilings. The suite we stayed in (Room 12) had not one but TWO bay windows, two sofas, armoire, coffee table, dresser, flatscreen tv on the wall above the bed etc... The room was huge!! A very pleasant surprise!!

Gorgeous, safe neighbourhood (friends of ours who are from Scotland told us that Kelvingrove is one of the best areas in Glasgow), convenient location and wonderful hosts would make me question why anyone would ever bother staying anywhere else.

Thanks again Steve and Emma for such a fabulous experience!!!

Welcoming hosts. Near the park. 10 Minutes walking distance from the city centre, yet quiet.

Hope they realize the plan to rent out guest house bikes as well. Then I'll start considering spending all my holidays here :)

We just returned from a 4-night stay at the Alamo. Steve & Emma (& little Leon) were wonderful hosts. They were friendly, accommodating & knowledgeable about the city & suggested places to see & eat. We stayed in room #1, which had been recently remodeled. The room was very comfortable & clean. We had a large flat-screen TV and a DVD player, which was great since they had a large library of DVD's to borrow. We only made it to breakfast one morning, but the offering was decent. The house is on a side street, so it was relatively quiet. It's an easy walk to the city centre, Kelvingrove park & museum & the shops in the West End. It was a great experience at a good value. We will definately be back if we visit Glasgow in the future. We can't wait to see Flash the cat again! He was always at the door ready to welcome you home and loved the attention!

We arrived in Glasgow after a whirlwind tour of Scotland. Steve met us at the door and came and carried the bags in as we were unpacking. Steve gave us a tour of the house and showed us our very large very well appointed room. As stated by other visitors there is nice attention to detail. We had a great shower and a very comfortable bed. We arrived just in time to go for dinner and Emma gave us the names of 3 restaurants that were within very close walking distance. We looked at all three and chose Blas. It was a wonderful choice. When we got back we conversed for a while with Emma and Steve and watched as their son played.
When we were leaving after breakfast there were several other couples who apparently come on a regular basis making arrangements for rooms in the late fall. This would be a great place to return to!

My parent and I recently visited Glasgow for a long weekend and booked two rooms at the Alamo Guesthouse. The whole experience was memorable. The building is period yet modern, well appointed, spotless and very quiet. The family-run aspect to the staffing makes it private with a very warm welcome. The location is excellent, very suburban and leafy, with good parking (free at weekends), Kelvingrove Park literally outside the front door, within a few minutes stroll of Glasgow University, the Hunterian, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and the Transport Museum, while the city centre is still within walking distance. Alternatively, the city's open top bus tour picks up a few hundred meters from the front door and you can get a weekend ticket for a few pounds. The guesthouse will give you a discount voucher too. We also sampled the local westend restaurants and could highly recommend Blas and the Sisters. For a city weekend break with a bit of class and incredible accomodation prices you really couldn't go wrong with the Alamo.
