My parent and I recently visited Glasgow for a long weekend and booked two rooms at the Alamo Guesthouse. The whole experience was memorable. The building is period yet modern, well appointed, spotless and very quiet. The family-run aspect to the staffing makes it private with a very warm welcome. The location is excellent, very suburban and leafy, with good parking (free at weekends), Kelvingrove Park literally outside the front door, within a few minutes stroll of Glasgow University, the Hunterian, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and the Transport Museum, while the city centre is still within walking distance. Alternatively, the city's open top bus tour picks up a few hundred meters from the front door and you can get a weekend ticket for a few pounds. The guesthouse will give you a discount voucher too. We also sampled the local westend restaurants and could highly recommend Blas and the Sisters. For a city weekend break with a bit of class and incredible accomodation prices you really couldn't go wrong with the Alamo.

What can we add that hasn't already been said? The Alamo is a truly special place to stay.

Steve and Emma and their staff are endlessly helpful and are able to make great recommendations about restaurants and activities in Glasgow. The location simply cannot be beat with Kelvingrove Park literally right outside the front door, and it's an easy 10-minute walk to the city centre.

We were lucky enough to stay in Room 1 - the most recently renovated suite - and it is stunning. We felt like the guests of honour and had a fabulous sleep.

One thing that impressed me was that they invited us to bring food back and use their dishes and dining room for dinner - this is in stark contrast to the attitudes of most B&Bs where they are very discouraging of takeaway meals. We had a lovely dinner in the dining room, watching the sun set over the park.

The little touches such as free internet, a huge selection of DVDs and friendly Flash the cat just make it all the more deserving of its great TripAdvisor ranking.

We have just returned from having spent a memorable week-end in Glasgow thanks to the care and attention of the staff at the Alamo Guesthouse. The building itself is beautiful, very comfortable and has been lovingly restored with great attention to detail and historical accuracy. It is a haven of tranquillity in the heart of a bustling city. The quietness of the street and the welcome birdsong gave the impression of 'rus in urbe' while numerous restaurants and nightlife are within walking distance. It is the perfect place to revive oneself after a hectic day's shopping before going out again at night.
Our room was very bright and comfortable and furnished with gorgeous antiques. The beds are of a very high quality and I did not want to leave it in the morning!! The bathroom is modern and well equipped with an excellent shower... good pressure and lots of hot water. The breakfast room overlooks the leafy Kelvingrove Park and my attention was divided between this view and the magnificent ceiling which is truly a work of art. Again attention to detail is evident in the healthy breakfast where fresh fruit is a big feature. The surroundings are superb and one can experience the atmosphere of Glasgow of a bygone era. However, the most commendable aspect of this guesthouse is the staff/owners. Steve and Emma made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. They are so thoughtful, kind and obliging. We will definitely return to the Alamo.

My friend and I were booked into the Alamo for just one night en route to Edinburgh. We had a late arrival, nearly 10pm, and when I called to let them know, I was told no problem at all.

When we arrived, we were thrilled to see this elegant Victorian-style house in a lovely section of Glasgow. Our room was gorgeous, with a huge four-poster bed, lovely en-suite bathroom, and a huge flat-screen TV on the wall. We were invited to choose one or more DVDs from the extensive collection, and were given the use of the house laptop for the night.

Breakfast was very good-- the best part was gaping at the gorgeous dining room with its hand-painted ceiling. We were stunned to learn that Steve, the proprietor, did the painting himself.

I only wish we could have stayed longer to fully appreciate this guest house and the city.

What can I say? What a fantastic place! I chanced upon this piece of Paridise purely by a bit of "googling" chance....And what a brilliant time we had there.

The room was excellent, The service was brilliant. The food was fab and we had a really lovely time there! The hotel is stunning! Fantastic period features, beautifully maintained and Steve and Emma and Christine are charm personified! They made us so welcome and nothing was too much trouble....Thank you for that!
And what a bargain!

If you are ever lucky enough to visit Glasgow this is the place to stay. It's situated bang opposite Kelvingrove park , the museum is definitely worth a visit . As are the pubs! We met loads of interesting characters!!!

I think you may have gathered that I loved the place! I will definitely be returning here

Keep up the good work You're doing a grand job!
