My husband booked us a surprise night in the Kirkhouse for my birthday. The hotel was set in the beautiful surroundings of the campsie hills The hotel interior was very traditional & cosy a lovely change from the modern hotels in glasgow city centre. Restaurant was very busy, however staff were friendly and attentive, food was of a high standard, best steak i have had in a long time. Great friendly atmosphere in Lounge Bar. Receptionist was very helpful and offered advice on local area, and on her recommendation after checking out of the hotel we enjoyed the day at the local distillery.

Overall i thoroughly enjoyed my birthday surprise so much so we are planning a family meal there at the end of July. I would definately recommend the Kirkhouse to anyone.

Just back from a night at the Kirkhouse Inn. We picked this hotel as we were attending a wedding in nearby Glengoyne Distillery. Was expecting a lot for the £95 a night price for our double room with breakfast and ended up feeling a bit disappointed.

We had room 17 (The Kirkhouse Room) which consisted of a bedroom area, a sitting area and a bathroom. The room was badly let down by the tired and outdated bathroom and the 'view'. If you read the hotel information you will hear all about fabulous views of the Campsie Hills, however our room looked onto an internal flat roof which was home to the air conditioning units - spectacular!! The double bed was very small and uncomfortable. Think this particular room could do with a makeover and perhaps a discount due to the lack of view.

It wasn't all bad - the staff were all friendly and helpful and the full Scottish breakfast was just what we needed the morning after the night before.

Overall I would say the hotel is overpriced. It is in a stunning location in the Campsie Hill (I am a wee bit biased originally coming from nearby) however I don't think this makes up for the disappointing experience we had.

If however you are in the area and are interested in whisky do pop into Glengoyne Distillery. We had a fabulous day at the wedding. The staff were fantastic, friendly and welcoming and the distillery is in a beautiful location where you can take a tour and sample the merchandise if you want. Thoroughly recommended!

This hotel is not 4 stars. At very best it is between 2 and 3.
The decor is tatty and outdated. The restaurant is very poor value and extremely boring. Breakfast was ok but nothing special. Location was disappointing.

Careful you don't take too much notice of the hotels website which is completely over the top. It certainly fooled us! The owners suggest that it is perfect for a luxury break. Believe me it isn't! Very average rooms overlooking a bitumen roof scattered with noisy air conditioning units is far from my idea of luxury.

Look elsewhere.

My boyfriend and I booked a five night stay at the Kirkhouse Inn for the end of August as we were attending a wedding in the area.
We found the food delicious and the breakfast staff were very accommodating when I was feeling a little bit fussy (the morning after the wedding). The receptionists were fabulous - I had a hair appointment booked but was let down at the last minute. The ladies spent a good half hour ringing around all of the local salons for me to organise an appointment. This, to me, is beyond 'average service'.
It is true however that the hotel could do with a good refurbishment. The decor was very 70s downstairs and I found the brass ceilings very disturbing. The rooms were comfortable but the ensuite could have done with a blind- I was very scared about turning the lights on at night and flashing the neighbours. Also there was no air-conditioning which wouldn't have bothered most guests 90% of the year but, as we were there during a mini heatwave, meant it was a little uncomfortable for us.
I would recommend this hotel to others wanting a comfortable, friendly hotel, without all of the mod-cons.

I have stayed at the Kirkhouse Inn twice now on business and found the staff very friendly and the hotel is a great place to unwind after a long day. I do agree with some other reviewers that the rooms need updating and some TLC would not go a miss but in my opinion this only adds to the charm of the hotel, The rooms were very clean and comfortable, the food was good. The biggest problem for me was the lack of Wifi in the hotel but this realy wasn't a problem.
