This hotel is not 4 stars. At very best it is between 2 and 3.
The decor is tatty and outdated. The restaurant is very poor value and extremely boring. Breakfast was ok but nothing special. Location was disappointing.

Careful you don't take too much notice of the hotels website which is completely over the top. It certainly fooled us! The owners suggest that it is perfect for a luxury break. Believe me it isn't! Very average rooms overlooking a bitumen roof scattered with noisy air conditioning units is far from my idea of luxury.

Look elsewhere.

My boyfriend and I booked a five night stay at the Kirkhouse Inn for the end of August as we were attending a wedding in the area.
We found the food delicious and the breakfast staff were very accommodating when I was feeling a little bit fussy (the morning after the wedding). The receptionists were fabulous - I had a hair appointment booked but was let down at the last minute. The ladies spent a good half hour ringing around all of the local salons for me to organise an appointment. This, to me, is beyond 'average service'.
It is true however that the hotel could do with a good refurbishment. The decor was very 70s downstairs and I found the brass ceilings very disturbing. The rooms were comfortable but the ensuite could have done with a blind- I was very scared about turning the lights on at night and flashing the neighbours. Also there was no air-conditioning which wouldn't have bothered most guests 90% of the year but, as we were there during a mini heatwave, meant it was a little uncomfortable for us.
I would recommend this hotel to others wanting a comfortable, friendly hotel, without all of the mod-cons.

I have stayed at the Kirkhouse Inn twice now on business and found the staff very friendly and the hotel is a great place to unwind after a long day. I do agree with some other reviewers that the rooms need updating and some TLC would not go a miss but in my opinion this only adds to the charm of the hotel, The rooms were very clean and comfortable, the food was good. The biggest problem for me was the lack of Wifi in the hotel but this realy wasn't a problem.

My stay at the Kirkhouse Inn was very disappointing and did not live up to expectations. The hotel is tired and needs a lot of money spending to bring it up to it's ridiculous 4 star status. The restaurant is average at best and very expensive. Clearly several other visitors have experienced problems and I would suggest you take their advice and don't waste your money like I did!

A really beautiful Hotel stopped in by chance and possibly had the best meal we have ever had, the staff were very attentive and friendly. They had a singer songwriter playing live, in the bar who was fantastic so we ended up staying the night the room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable, the breakfast was to die for, overall it was a great night and just what the doctor ordered well done and thank you to all at the Kirkhouse!
