Stayed here with a group of 14 friends October this year. Overall the place is pretty good (served our purpose anyway i.e. somewhere central to lay our heads). The rooms are small but ok, was slightly alarmed by hardcore porn freely available on the room tv. Glad there were no children in our party!! Beds comfy, our room was at the front and next to the lift and can honestly say noise was not a problem.
My only gripe about the hotel is with one particular member of staff. The reception staff are great and are very helpful but there was one bloke (dont know his name, small, bald and scruffy looking) who let the place down significantly. Our first experience with him was one night when my friend could not figure out how the tv in her room worked. She called reception who said they would send someone up. Moments later there was a knock at her door and when she answered this weird man was there - not in uniform or even smartly dressed. She was a little taken aback but let him in to look at the tv. He then proceeded to yank at wires coming from the in room hair dryer asking her why it was there. He claimed that the hotel didnt do hairdryers and she must have wired it up and that was why the tv was not working. My friend explained that the hair dryer was there when she got there and that there was no plug - the wire went straight in to the wall so how could she have wired it in? He continued to mutter and stumble about - she was convinced he was drunk as a newt - until she ordered him out of the room.
Next morning at breakfast and we've all heard the tale of the tv. Not to disappoint the guy is also helping serve breakfast. Staggering around, again not in uniform and what a treat - flies are down too - lovely!! Just what you want to see whilst trying to eat cornflakes. Another friend asks for an Earl Grey tea, he says they dont do that and adds - you know where the shops are!! What a charmer.
To be honest it was all a bit surreal, the rest of the staff were so professional and helpful and yet didnt seem to realise this weirdo wandering about the place. It was like he wasnt there - just a figment of our imaginations. Sadly though he was real, really creepy. I would stay at the Artto again, but hope that this person had left or was not on 'duty'. Still dont know what he actually did!!!
