my partner and i stayed here from 30 dec till 2nd jan. we booked this hotel because of its proximity to the shops and nightlife - something we couldn't fault in any way. however, the internet photos do not give a good representation of the hotel at all. the room was very basic - no toiletries, towels which seemed pretty old, not much hanging space for clothes, worn out bedding and curtains and a modern tv which only got a reception for about 3 channels. not what i was expecting from the photos and hotel description.
the heating in our room had not been turned on when we arrived and it took a couple of hours for the room to heat up - not ideal for glasgow in december. the windows were also very old and did not close properly, resulting in a very cold draught. on new years day, we woke (around 2pm) to find the electricity had been cut off in the room and there was also no water - either from the taps, shower or wc. my partner complained to reception who told us it was being fixed and should be working shortly. with no water or elecricity it was impossible to get ready to go out, thereby ruining our last full day in glasgow. the water and electricity were finally back at about 530pm.
to be fair to the hotel, we were offered another room to use about 430pm, but advised to wait another 10 minutes as things were expected to be back to normal. they weren't.
we won't be going back to this hotel and i'd advise anyone looking for a centrally located hotel to try the carlton george instead. it's much better.
