“Pretty good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2014

The food is good, its a different twist of traditional fish and chips, you can sit in or take away.
Service is good, its licensed so you can have a beer or wine with your chippy.
If I had one complaint it would be that its cold and draftie, the door was open the whole time and the wind blew through, I can understand if the door is closed it could get warm but we felt the cold.

“Mediocre chips at best”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2014

Decided to check out Old Salty's with my girlfriend a couple of days ago whilst the sun was blazing. Had wanted to give it a spin since seeing a good review from Jay Rayner a few months back. Got two take away portions of chips, but as we munched into them after walking to Kelvingrove 2 mins away, we bouth found them oddly crisp and pretty much devoid of taste, perhaps partly due to the service girl putting the salt on first and then putting the vinegar on, thus washing away all the salt. I do wonder what kind of potatoes they use, as there really was zero taste from them. Maybe we were just expecting too much, but we were both unimpressed, my girlfriend so much so that she only ate a few and binned the rest (I was starving, so ate them regardless to fill my belly lol).

In a nut shell, because they were so utterly blant mediocre and weird textured we will not be back. Had much better chips from very much worse places.

“Brilliant Fish & Chips”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

Went here with a few friends after commonwealth games event (only 5/10 mins walk from SECC/Hydro)

Great food at a very reasonable price, house wine was lovely as well. Helpful staff and good atmosphere to boot :)

“Chips & Cheerful!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

Found it by accident, and delighted that we did. The Haddock, chips and mushy peas were delicious, and it certainly wasn't a meagre portion!!! Staff were attentive, polite and helpful. Service was quick. True to say, it isn't cheap, but, for the quality (and volume!) of the meals that we had, I didn't consider it to be too expensive, after all, it's in a big city!
Would certainly go back, and would certainly have no hesitation in recommending it to friends and family.
If you like basic, well cooked food, you could do worse!!
