“Good beer but children abound”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

Visited with the wife on a Friday night to enjoy the steins of German beer, in the beer we were not disappointed. The staff were very good and actually everything they did was excellent. My only gripe (and this will suit many others) was that many of the patrons were teenagers waiting for the pictures and bored parents (often with younger children) waiting for offspring to finish snowboarding/skiing. This detracts from the overall pub atmosphere. The entertainment was a DJ so maybe teenagers are a target audience. I will pop in when passing for a pint but I wont make a night of it again. Authentic Bavarian food was good as well.

“Innatentive staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

Was down at Braehead today for a bit of shopping, decided to pop into Bar Varia for a coffee. After having a quick look at the people skiing and snowboarding from out on the balcony we grabbed a table and waited for someone to come and take our order... and waited and waited. Despite trying to gain the attention of 3 or 4 different members of staff, who were apparently too engrossed in looking for new customers coming into the bar to pay attention to any already in there, we eventually gave up after close to 15 minutes of frustration and left.

A real shame as the refurb looks nice and I'm down at Braehead quite a lot.

“Nice for families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

Recently visited here to see my friends band play in the bar. Did find it difficult to find when I first walked in but staff were friendly when I asked for directions. It was fairly busy when I arrived at 6pm but found 4 benches near where the band would be playing. Children are allowed in the bar til 9pm & and allowed to move about & get up and dance, unlike west brewery who claim to be child friendly then expect the kids to be chained to their chairs.
We opted to buy a sharing platter to go around 3 adults & 2 toddlers, 3 soft drinks & a children's squash and it all came to less than £30 which was good value. The platter was enough to feed all 5 of us & was very tasty.
I'd happily go back here again when out in this neck of the woods

“Gemischt! Not got it quite right.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

Having visited only once, it would be churlish to award average. But T advisor goes from average to very good, not av to good and so can fuddle the issue. location: hard to find. It is within the cinema complex on second floor.
Let's start with the menu: I am fluent in German. The menu is bilingual. The errors glare out on every page. Not one phrase correct. Poor show. I think they have google translated the menu.Space; big, airy, nice views. seating is good.
alcohol: extensive list and description of the german Bierliste. They served me a Paulaner in a pint glass. No, that is like putting champagne into a mug. My companion had her white wine served in any old stem glass.pinot grigot was not as fresh as it could have been. Not good. my beer lost its flavour very quickly and was flat.
food: I ordered a main of stew meatballs and seasonal veg with crusty bread. bread was a diagonally cut morton's roll, which I assume would have also been destined for my plate had I ordered a burger!!! Aye, right. My casserole was described as a main meal. there were five tiny meatballs in gravy with four halves of petite charlotte potatoes and less than three tiny slices of carrot . It was not a casserole, it was as above served on a half plate placed on a full plate. Here Ikea would put them to shame, even as a child portion. These are not german proper sized or even scottish sized portions. I won't be taking my german teenagers there. they would be still hungry.Disappointed. My companion chose the steak. The steak had been burnt on one side and scraped. she had asked for no pepper gravy, that had been scraped off also. But she could still
taste it . Service was lovely. Got the bill. Signed off with Vielen Danke. I finally cracked and pointed it out. This is not grammatically correct. No great interest shown. Pity.
Authentic German:No.
Buy your beer bottled. Draught beer poor pressure .Other bier vom Fass in Glasgow served in proper glasses.
advice to restaurant: translate correctly.
A german stew is not gravy added to meatballs. A seven year old would have had that , then wanted more.
Morton's rolls are rolls. They do not sell them as crusty bread, nor should you.

Please sort, I would love to bring
you custom through my german contacts.
