I was part of a hen party who had a VIP room for an afternoon tea with a burlesque class. We arrived and went down stairs first only to be told we were in the wrong place. Perhaps better signage might have helped?
Upon arrival into the VIP room, it didnt look very sumptuous or grand, and only the prettily dressed table seemed to rescue the situation. Our teapots of cocktails were served quite quickly but the food took a while and we all got served at different times. There was a confusion over how many teapots we had actually had and this detracted a little from our afternoon. Its very easy to count up how many were delivered and we were not hiding them anywhere! Anyway, the issue was sorted and the food and drink served.
The cocktails definitely lacked alcohol and the food, whilst nice, was nothing really special. Some finger sandwiches with ordinary fillings (egg mayo, cheese, ham), two hot scones only, and some small cakes - it was fine but nothing special.
The burlesque lesson was good and our teacher made everyone comfortable and at ease. This was the highlight of the afternoon.
We also had a cocktail making demonstration but it was funny for them to pass round one glass for all 25+ of us to taste!
I found the drinks to be expensive. A double vodka and coke was nearly 8 pounds! Ouch.
For the amount we paid per person, I dont think it was good value for money, the room wasnt particularly lush, and the cost of additional drinks was very high.
