“If you are pretentious then you are sorted !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

Im a Glasgow boy born & bred and have always been fascinated by the attraction of Glasgow's West End. I know there are all the beautiful buildings ( Glasgow University, The Art Gallery and numerous other buldings of historical significance) but lets face it....its not like the West end of London. People seem tp be strangelly drawn to Byres Road, and the surrounding areas in search of some sort of tangible "something" that defines the feeling of the West End. For me, it doesnt exist. Granted, the Oran Mor sits across from the Botanic Gardens. Both beauitful in thier own right but the Byres Road illusion escapes me. Would much rather dangle my feet in Loch Lomond on a Sunday morning than be part of the pretentious air heads who frequent the coffee bars to read the Sunday Times. For all those who think they area someone, eating an overpriced croissant and coffee in full view of other pretentious aiir heads does not make you interesting or important.. Make a sandwich and a flask of soup and head out of Byres Road to the Botanic Gardens. You will have a much better time.....believe me....ive done it !! Enjoy !!

“The place to go to in Glasgow”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

So many good things to do and take in around here - eating, entertainment, university, shopping, etc - all excellent. Such a buzz about the place both day and night.

“Great shops”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

I had never been down Byers Road or around this area before, and my first trip did not dissappoint. There are so many shops and restaurants, that its such an eclectic mixture.Reccommend a visit to the Nancy Smillie shop (in which I did not realise me or my husband said at least a dozen time "look at that!", but couldn't stop ourselves) and the cheese shop. Also, a visit to the many vintage shops is a must. Keep an eye out and head down some of the wee lanes as there are some hidden nik nak shops which are also worth a visit. We also came across the "Cup and Saucer" tea room, which has a 50's theme throughout and was a good experience. Already planning our next day out to the West End!
