Stayed here for 3 nights. Without exception, all the staff were extremely friendly, helpful & courteous. Plenty of reception staff, so no queueing even at busy times.
Rooms were a good size for a 3* city hotel, nice & clean.
The staff were far better than many a 4 or 5 star hotel I have stayed in.
The hotel is located very close to Central station & shopping areas. Good window insulation, so no noise from trains or traffic.
The weakest link is the restaurant, dinner & breakfast was, shall we say, mediocre, but once again the staff were brilliant.
No hesitation in recommending the hotel.

If you are looking for a clean, comfortable room in Glasgow City Centre at reasonable cost this hotel would probably meet your criteria. It is very centrally located, 2 minutes from one of the main shopping areas (Argyle Street) and the Central railway station and yet one side overlooks the River Clyde. We stayed over on a Friday night to attend the Glasgow Concert Hall and didn’t find our sleep disturbed by traffic, revellers or the trains which are very close to the building (must be good soundproofing).

There is no parking in the busy one-way street in front of the hotel however discount is given by Jurys for the multi-storey car park across the road - just get your ticket validated when you are ready to collect the car. Due to the location of the car park (you reach it before the hotel on the one-way system) it is easier to park first and carry your luggage across the street. If you drop off at the door you will have to go around the one-way system to get back to the car park which may take some time if traffic is heavy.

The hotel is modern. The reception is spacious and staff there are generally helpful. Off the reception is a large comfortable bar lounge and thanks to legislation there is no smoking in public bars, restaurants, etc nowadays in the UK. The restaurant is off to the other side of the reception however it looks a bit too much like a good café rather than a hotel dining room. Our only experience of dining there was at breakfast which is self-service. A member of staff did “mark us” off the guest list however gave no indication of the routine and judging by the number of foreign guests who looked a bit lost we were not alone in being left to just find our own way. Not that there is a huge selection to find your way around. The choice and quality was not great and the overall experience could be bettered at many of the nearby cafes, etc in the city centre. I see that previous comments have not praised this aspect of the hotel and despite management comments about addressing the issue I believe it is still their Achilles heal. Most hotels of a similar size and standard put on a much better show in this respect. There are a huge number of places to eat out within walking distance in the City Centre for all budgets.

Good quick lift system (several available) and pleasant public areas. Our room was on one of the upper levels and overlooked the River Clyde at the side of the hotel. Reasonably spacious, comfortable bed, clean, modernish appearance. Decent shower over the bath (with wall-mounted soap dispenser). Hairdryer provided in drawer. TV just had basic channels. Tea/coffee facilities provided however remember to take your own biscuits (these are not provided).

Overall we would certainly be happy to book up the hotel on a future occasion and skip the breakfast.

  • Liked — Convenient for City Centre, decent value, comfortable
  • Disliked — Breakfast was not a great experience

Dear Trip Advisor

Thank you for the detailed review. I am delighted you enjoyed your stay and it's always great to hear that you plan to return again.

I am surprised about the breakfast experience. I will speak to the staff that welcome guests at the restaurant entrance. As detailed in your review there should be a brief description of how the buffet works. However I must say in general our breakfast feedback has improved greatly over the past few months as we have made a number of changes.

Next time you are back in Glasgow do email me at peter_stack@jurysinns.com.

Sincerely

Peter Stack

I stayed at this hotel in June this year and have to say this is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The hotel is in a brilliant location on Jamaica Street which is just a nice distance out of the main centre. The hotel had really nice rooms and a fantastic breakfast choice. The bar and restaurant were also fantastic and I have to say being a travel agent I look for many things in a hotel and this one has it all. I have stayed in many many hotels from 1-5 star and have to say this hotel may be rated a three but the standards and staff certainly put it in the 5 star catagory!!
Thanks Peter and all the staff for a fantastic time!!!

Great Hotel but not good response with fire alarm

We reserved room number 1107 ten months in advance and I was very happy that they did indeed assign that room to us! Great front desk...the manager came over to greet us as well. The room was nice and had a great view. The location was perfect and close to the train station. The walls and windows were well insulated and we slept without any noises. The only two negatives were that breakfast is really overpriced ($20.00 usd pp) so I suggest going a block down to Witherspoons to eat. Also, we had a fire alarm at midnight and we were only able to go down two flights of stairs (we were on the 12th floor) as the central stairwell was full of people. My husband and I started to feel nervous so we retreated back up the stairs and headed for a different stairwell at the outside perimeter. There was not one single person in that stairwell. We ran down all 12 floors and exited the side of the hotel. Two fire trucks were already out there and they let us back in stating that food burning in a microwave was the cause. So, after midnight we made the climb back up 12 flights and tried to go back to sleep. It was quite unnerving to have experienced a total lack of coordination and had that been a serious fire there would have been a lot of people stuck in the central stairwell. Complete lack of communication and direction from the staff could have easily led to panic. I would suggest a serious review of your hotel emergency evacuation plan. So, if you stay there please remember to use the perimeter stairwell in the event of a fire alarm...other than that it was a nice play to stay!

Dear Trip Advisor

Thank you for your review. It is great that you enjoyed the hotel but obviously concerning that the situation following the evacuation was not explained to you.

As a large city centre hotel our staff are well drilled in evacuating a hotel. We have risk assessments in place to deal with every scenario. When the fire bells go off it is our policy to evacuate the whole building and we normally achieve this in a few minutes. However in this instance the fire engines turned up within three minutes, identified the fault and declare a false evacuation. Unfortunately some guests heard this and rather than evacuate the hotel as advised by staff they decided to return back up the stairs. Hence the slowdown on this stair. So we became victims of our own efficiency. Our hotel is now opened five years and this is the first time this has happened. To avoid this happening again our procedures are now amended.

Just as a point of interest I viewed the evacuation on CCTV and from the start of the bells to the last person returning to their room (after the evacuation) was a total of 9 minutes and 50 seconds.

Should anyone wish to contact me directly I am more than happy to discuss the matter. My direct line number is (0141) 314 4801 or email at peter_stack@jurysinns.com.

Sincerely

Peter Stack

Stayed here for two nights and its a great location in the city centre and only a few minutes walk from central station.Staff are friendly and helpful. The room was standard and needed to be dusted, bathroom was small but clean. Unfortunately the fire alarm went off at twelve midnight and the hotel had to be evacuated. We were on the sixth floor and when we went to the stairs there was crowds of people on it and nobody was moving. We only got as far as the fourth floor when we heard that it was a false alarm. There didnt seem to be any communication as to what was happening and why there was a huge build up of people on the stairs but I hope that if there was a real fire that people wouldnt be left waiting on the stairs as it was a frightening experience.
