Marks Hotel, Bath Street, Glasgow. Room a little on the small side but perfectly adequate. Window faced a wall so little in terms of a view but we were staying to do things in the city, not to stay in the room. Towels good, bathroom clean, bed not long enough to take my 6 ft 1 frame (ankles off end of bed). TV channels I had to retune myself (cracked the parental password in seconds...!). I agree with others - it wants to be something it can't but for price I paid (£115 for the 2 nights) it was a bargain.
As for parking, Buchannan Galleries multi-storey is not far away and hotel validates your ticket for much reduced price. If you are staying for more than 2 nights and want to leave the car indefinately in the multi-storey just go down the "lost ticket" route and pay the full £25 penalty rather than the 3 days reduced rate of £30. Probably.

Looking through some of the latest reviews of this place it looks like some of the 5star reviews have been written staff friends and family - 5* it aint. Neither though is it the 1* someone gave it. Its definately better than average but I'm not sure it deserves 'very good'. On the plus side the decor certainly makes an effort and it is a cut above the standard hotel fare. Rooms were a decent size and everything was clean and worked and had a certain level of quality to it. On the minus there was no air conditioning and on the hottest weekend of the year so far it was a tough choice between opening the windows or getting a decent nights sleep - Bath Street is a main street and noisy. Also the shower was in the bath - not so boutique. Breakfast was hit and miss - a good choice for a continental breakfast but grim bread rolls instead of real bread. Best thing was the location, right in the heart of the city and an easy walk to shops, bars and restaurants. There are some great plaes to eat very close by, we chose a lovely little Italian cafe - Sarti's, the cafe, not the reataurant which is just round the corner in a basement.

The place was booked by partner who was here on business so I was just tagging along for a long weekend so if I'd been booking I might have tried to get one of the higher ranked/cheaper hotels but on the whole it was perfectly good and no real complaints - 15th out of 137 hotels seems fair - goodness knows what the bottom 10% are like though.

Stayed at this hotel to go and see "The Eagles" in concert, perfect for what we wanted. City centre, clean and easy to find with parking at the nearby Buchannan Galleries at a reduced rate. Will definately use again.

My sister and I stayed here when we went to the Take That concert. I booked the hotel back in October at the same time as I booked the concert tickets on the recommendation of a friend from Glasgow. I booked it on the internet but not directly with the hotel, I can't actually remember who the booking was through but I printed off a prepaid voucher. The room cost £89 B&B which I thought was a good deal, cheaper than booking direct with the hotel. When we arrived at the hotel it was approx. 1230 and with check in not being until 2pm didn't think we would be checked in - but we were - and we got a complimentary upgrade to one of the large rooms on the 7th floor with the floor-to-ceiling windows and complimentary bathrobes and slippers. It was actually a triple room not a double. It was a lovely room and the beds were very comfortable. The decor was really cool. The shower was brilliant and there were lovely huge fluffy bath sheets and Arran Aromatics toiletries. The only reason I will not give full marks on the review is there was a rather unpleasant smell of dampness in the bathroom, although the room was very clean.

We had a Take That themed cocktail in the bar before the show - thought this was a nice touch and they were only £4 each, £3.50 after the concert.

The breakfast was great - we both had the cooked option plus toast and fruit and danish pastries! It was also brilliant that it was served until 12pm.

The location was perfect - 5 minutes walk from Queen Street station and Buchanan Galleries.

Would recommend Sartis for lunch - gorgeous place with really tasty food and 2 courses for £10.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to others and would stay here again.

I travelled down with 4 other friends for the weekend for the Take That concert. We had a fantastic time and had a really good stay at the Marks Hotel. The General Manager Donald was one of the most friendliest, intentative Managers that I have ever met. Nothing was to much trouble for him and his main aim was paramount to assure that his customers stay at the Hotel was the best it could be. He is obviously a very respected guy and this was shown by the way he interacted with his staff and the way they worked together as a team. (eg at breakfast Donald could be seen clearing tables and ensuring that the coffee/tea was always flowing).
The Marks Hotel are very priviliged to have a Manager like that working for them. I will definately be using them again for my next trip to Glasgow.
Keep the good work up!!
