In terms of value for money for a triple room the Marks Hotel on Bath Street offered by far the best deal. On arrival we were greeted by friendly reception staff with minumum fuss and enjoyed a light lunch in the excellent One Ten bar where our waiter was more than helpful with tips about how to plan our tour of the shops and even getting us a map and pointing out the route.
The room was a reasonable size with a small plasma screen TV and was modern, clean and comfortable. No fridge ,but there were tea and coffee making facilties and a pleasant bathroom with good toiletries and lots of fresh towels.
it wasnt until we returned after dinner on the first night that we realised how hot the room was and that there was no air con. The only way to sleep was to open the window and for the uninitiated, Glasgow on a Friday and Saturday night never sleeps, so the noise from the street was unremitting and with a relentless volume that made sure none of us slept much for the first two nights. The Sunday was a different matter altogether , the weekend revellers having by and large gone home and we gratefully collapsed and tried to recover the lost hours!!
It's a pity that what could be a really good hotel is diminished by the lack of air con especially when it's impossible to cope with the street noise when windows are open.
i would recommend this hotel for a mid week stay but wouldn't return on a friday or saturday unless air con was available and i could keep my windows closed!
