Got an outstanding [to good to be true] deal for this hotel on a famous hotel web site.A suite, breakfast, bottle of champagne all for £89.00 a night [suite normally £189.00 w/out breakfast]However the very friendly girl at reception informed us that it was an old valentines offer which the web company should no longer be advertising but the staff here are class and they gave us everything requested at the £89 price.
The hotel is very pleasant and central. The split level room was great with a 20 inch plasma with freeview channels in both the bedroom and the downstairs living area, very comfy bed, great views across Glasgow [see mobile phone pics]and fairly quiet through the night a little noise from the street on the Saturday but nothing serious.Reception area/lobby nice and modern, friendly bar.
Had a meal in the hotel which was a little disappointing [side orders arrived late for main courses and coffee served b4 sweet] would have been great had the timing issues been fixed but this is where this hotels class came through again when Andy the Restuarant Manager asked if we enjoyed the meal and we expressed our very mild disappointment he,very generously, gave us the meal and wine free of charge [wish all hotels employed staff like this] On checking out we left our luggage @ hotel for a days shopping and picked them up later to stroll the 5 mins to Queens Street rail station.Overall very satisfied with Hotel/stay

I tend to work in Glasgow several times a month and as a result I have had the experience of most of the hotels in this city. This was my second visit since it's buy out from Bewley's and the first time with my kids. I booked 2 rooms for 2 days for us all to share and checked in at 9pm that evening. Very clean and effecient reception checked us into our rooms and pointed the way to the retaurant/bar. We dropped our bags off and set off for the bar to enjoy a really nice meal in the company of the great bar staff. The kids enjoyed their soft drinks and the overall atmosphere was very nice. It wasnt until we were settling down in our rooms that we found (in the single bed) what can only be described as "body hair". In need not say any more!! Also in the bathroom, one of the glass tumblers had dark sticky residue from a previous occupants alcoholic drink. Despite this we had a good nights sleep and the following day ventured into Edinburgh. We didnt return back until gone 8pm so we decided that we would stay and eat in the hotel again as we enjoyed it from the previous night. We sat the kids down and I went to the bar to order. The same staff from the previous night I might add then informed me that children werent allowed in the bar after 8pm. I did point out (and he remembered) that we were in the previous night at a later time, but he just said that the Hotel manager wouldnt allow the kids in the bar. Despite the inconsistancy I suggested that we eat in the restaurant instead. I was informed that the 8 pm curfew for children applied to the restaurant as well!! Now in all my travelling days, I have never ever come acrross a hotel that would not allow children into a restaurant to eat. Don't get me wrong, my children are very well behaved and know how to conduct themselves in public. We were tired and hungry so seeing as they wouldnt budge, we ended up ordering pizza from Dominoes in our room. The following day on checkout I complained to the reception about our stay. I questioned the consistancy of the hotels policy. I fully understand that if they dont have a licence to cater for kids then that is the law, but to be admitted one night and then not the other, I cannot get my head around this. Nor can I understand that if this is hotel policy, why I wasnt told this upon checking in!! Anyway I was told that the manager would contact me either by telephone or email. This was 2 weeks ago. Have I heard anything from them? Not a thing. Would I stay there again? Not a chance! Back to the SAS Radisson for myself and family now.

Management response from Marks_Hotel, Group Operations Director
(Management representative)
Apr 23, 2008
Dear Guest,

Thank you for your recent review regarding your stay ar Marks Hotel.

We were disheartened to hear this was not all it could have been for you and issues have been raised, and procedures implemented with our Executive Housekeeper to ensure our standards are kept.

Unfortunately, as our bar is a public city centre bar, we are obliged not to have children present after 8pm. We do however welcome families into our restaurant all evening, so we wish to extend our apologies for any mis-communication regarding this.

We would be glad to welcome you back to Marks Hotel Glasgow sometime in the near future, at which point please feel free to contact me directly.

With kind regards,
Andy McAllister

I have stayed twice at the Marks Hotel this year. The second time was in March for three consecutive nights, on a business trip. The experience was a pleasure. The reception staff were efficient and most helpful. The hotel in general is clean, freshly decorated and clearly well looked after. The bedroom was not vast but perfectly comfortable and well appointed. The television was excellent with a wide range of channels and a good quality picture.
One reason I chose the hotel was free Internet connection. I could not get mine to work; I had help from their excellent IT guy. He sorted the problem, which turned out to be the way my laptop was configured. I was really impressed with his skill and readiness to be really helpful.
Dinner is served in the hotel restaurant; the selection of food is more than adequate and the service in the dining room cannot be faulted. Prices are reasonable. Breakfast, served in the same room (which is not very atmospheric, but pleasant enough) is managed with great skill, whether you are on business and need to be served quickly or have time for a leisurely kipper! The attention to detail is most commendable. One waiter insisted on changing my toast as it had been served too early and was now cold!
Nearby are a range of restaurants and a multiscreen cinema. This part of Glasgow also has various theatres so there is plenty to do in the evening that is in walking distance. The Italian Bistro across the road is to be recommended and the Indian restaurant ten minutes walk away, memorably named the Karma Sutra, is one of the best I have ever been to.

I had high hopes for Marks after reading reviews on this website and am delighted to say I wasn't disappointed. Great, friendly but not obtrusive service, wonderfully comfy rooms decorated in the style I wish I'd dared do at home. No skimping on the little comforts - goose down duvets, gorgeous blankets on the bed, plasma tv and a good shower and bathroom.
Breakfast was very good too, though would opt for ordering the cooked option as the buffet got a little meagre as the morning went on. Service again was professional and prompt.
I'll be returning and recommending to anyone who fancies a fab hotel in central Glasgow, close to shopping, bars and transport. Price, when booked on gta.com, was ridiculously reasonable too.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights as part of a break in Glasgow.

The hotel is right in the centre of town, and close to the main transport links which made it a good base to explore the city.

Our room was stylishly decorated and had all mod cons. The bathroom was clean and well equipped. The food was excellent, we ate dinner one night and the breakfast was freshly cooked rather than stewed in a buffet.

The service was good, and the staff helpful. I could definitely recommend this hotel to both other couples looking for a good hotel for the weekend, or to someone visiting the centre of Glasgow in business.
