I have stayed twice at the Marks Hotel this year. The second time was in March for three consecutive nights, on a business trip. The experience was a pleasure. The reception staff were efficient and most helpful. The hotel in general is clean, freshly decorated and clearly well looked after. The bedroom was not vast but perfectly comfortable and well appointed. The television was excellent with a wide range of channels and a good quality picture.
One reason I chose the hotel was free Internet connection. I could not get mine to work; I had help from their excellent IT guy. He sorted the problem, which turned out to be the way my laptop was configured. I was really impressed with his skill and readiness to be really helpful.
Dinner is served in the hotel restaurant; the selection of food is more than adequate and the service in the dining room cannot be faulted. Prices are reasonable. Breakfast, served in the same room (which is not very atmospheric, but pleasant enough) is managed with great skill, whether you are on business and need to be served quickly or have time for a leisurely kipper! The attention to detail is most commendable. One waiter insisted on changing my toast as it had been served too early and was now cold!
Nearby are a range of restaurants and a multiscreen cinema. This part of Glasgow also has various theatres so there is plenty to do in the evening that is in walking distance. The Italian Bistro across the road is to be recommended and the Indian restaurant ten minutes walk away, memorably named the Karma Sutra, is one of the best I have ever been to.
