Stayed at this hotel whilst attending a concert at the SECC. The City Inn opposite was my first choice but it was more than double the price of this place for this particular night. Location is excellent for the SECC as its practically in the car park so you can avoid the queues for taxis after a concert, just stroll across the road.
On arrival, the reception staff were very friendly and efficient, quickly getting us on our way to the lifts. The room was very clean and tidy but it was absolutley tiny, barely enough room to walk round the bed. (the bed itself was only a double, I guess I'm just used to most hotels having Queen beds now!) The carpet in our room was very dirty and could do with being replaced due to the large burn mark from an iron in it.
All the staff we came across were very friendly apart from the chamber maids who ignored us and looked away as we approached, no 'good morning' or even a 'hello' which we are used to in other hotels chains worldwide. It costs nothing to be friendly!
The bar was nice and the staff friendly and it but closed at 10:30 at night. This is just 20 minutes after we got in from the concert and we would have prefered a bit longer to unwind with a couple of drinks. As it was we were served a round of drinks and then we were asked to take them with us into the reception area to drink them as they were shutting the bar area. About 40 people were in the bar at the time and were all ushered into the reception area carrying drinks! I was not alone in being un-impressed with this. We then asked at reception for a packet of peanuts or crisps at about 11:00pm and were told to try the City Inn across the road!
We did'nt eat breakfast or dinner so can't comment on the restaurant but it looked fresh and clean. We ate at the 'India Quay' Indian restaurant, just 2 minutes walk and an excellent choice, I'd recommend it every time!
I would try the City Inn next time but if its something cheap and cheerful you want then this place is OK....but it does have a few (easily rectified) problems.
