“Perfect location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2009

Situated in the Merchant City area of Glasgow, the Fraser Suites is in a perfect location for both socialising and shopping. There is some noise from the streets below, but being on the fourth floor it wasn't disrupting. Given the central location it did not come as a surprise.
The suite itself was immaculate, and spacious. It contained everything necessary for a short stay in a city, having a tv in both the sitting room and bedroom. It also affords the traveller a degree of independence, rather depending on hotel dining times etc. The staff were pleasant too.
The only negative was the water pressure in the morning, but itwas sufficient for showering purposes.
Highly recommended.

Be aware of the check out policy for this hotel! When we checked in there was no mention of the early check out time of 11am so was extemely suprised to receive a phone call at 11.25am the next morning to say we had 5 mins to check out or we would be charged £25! We reluctantly accepted the charge and thought we would spend the extra time getting ready to spend the day in Glasgow. We were even more suprised when we received another phone call at 11.55am to say if we weren't in reception by 12pm we would be charged another £25!! The staff (inc General Manager) were extremely rude at reception and insisted that all guest are informed about the early checkout and then pointed to small print on a tiny plaquard behind reception which stated the policy. Although the apartment and facilities were nice I have concerns about customer service and ethical pricing policies. I wont be staying there again.

Although it's a bit difficult to find, you'll be glad you did. Our room was on the top floor facing the back of the buidling toward the carpark. The studio apartment-styled room was very spacious and modern. The bathroom needed a facelift but the room was well appointed with pleasing furnishings, a small kitchenette, refrigerator, CD player/stereo, and a DVD player connected to the television.

The hotel is relatively close to the major shopping areas and the neighborhood is decent. The location is surrounded by good pubs and restaurants and there is a Marks and Spencer about two blocks away for those who prefer to prepare their food in the room.

The hotel does not have their own parking area but they have a deal set up with the Q-Park next door. The hotel will give you a coupon to stick in the pay machine in the parking garage which will take 50% of the cost. We parked there for 2 1/2 days and the total cost was under £20. The parking garage was well lighted and most of the vehicles parked there were a bit up-market so I had no worries at all about the carpark.

The hotel also has umbrellas for use by the guests. A big plus in this area in the fall of the year.

On the downside, walls are thin and the previously mentioned CD player/radio can ruin your night if your neighbors come in late from the pub and bring the party with them... which happened 2 of the 3 nights we were there.

All things considered, the amenities were a good deal for the money and the location was great. My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Fraser Suites, Glasgow and would certainly stay there again.

My daughter and I stayed in the Fraser Suites for ten nights in September 2008. We loved the location - close to shopping , trains and buses. We loved the fact that we could prepare our own meals right in the suite. (had a kitchen/fridge). We also enjoyed the free specialty coffee available opposite reception each morning!

BUT if you stay in this hotel make sure that your room does not face any street!! For three nights we suffered through vehicle noise and pub noise/revellers. The window did not keep any noise out. However, the staff was very accommodating when we told them of our issue and promptly moved us to the top floor and to a back facing room which was very quiet.

If you stay at this hotel, be sure and ask for a room on the top floor, and away from the street!! (we were facing a parking garage, and it was a perfect room).

Staff friendly, rooms kept clean, but a little dated. Good value for your money.

The actual room we stayed at the Fraser Suites in Glasgow, Scotland was very much as described in the hotel's website. The room was exactly the same as the picture shown.
We stayed in a studio apartment. The studio was spacious, functional including kitchnette with fridge, microwave, two burner stove, ironing board and iron, cutlery, utensils, cable TV, etc.
The location is fairly central, that we walked with our suitcases with wheels from the Queen Street Train Station to the hotel. We also walked from the hotel to the Airport bus stop at George Square.
The hotel is located in Merchant City the up and coming area of Glasgow with many bars, restaurants, pubs, etc. It is within walking distance to shops, downtown, the Central Station, underground station, attractions, etc.
A drawback is that because of its lively nightlife, on weekends it can be a bit noise with cars (maybe taxis, I hope!) driving by and inebriated people speaking loudly at 3:40 am! You may also hear loud neighbours in contiguous rooms. Other than that it is a pleasant place to stay in a nice area of town.

  • Liked — Spaciousness.
  • Disliked — Noise from the outside and occasionally from neighbouring suites.

Being originally from Glasgow, and now living in Germany, I had never heard of this hotel. Nice hotel situated in city centre (Merchant City Area). Rooms are spacious, with fitted kitchen -utensils-micro-hob, nice bathroom with power shower, good quality towels-bathrobes. TV-DVD Player-HiFi. Hotels in the Merchant City, which has a vast amount of bars-restaurants, your only 5 mins walk to the buzz of the city centre. Staff brilliant and helpful. Overall had a brilliant stay, which is good as we are staying in the Fraser Suites again beginning of October, when we are back over for another wedding.

Booked this property after reading mixed reviews here and some very good reviews at other websites. Booked a studio for a week-long stay during a meeting at the SECC.

Compared with the prices for conference hotels near the SECC, this place was a bargain, especially given that it came equipped with a kitchen. It was well located in the Merchant City area of Glasgow, within walking distance of trains, buses, good restaurants, and plentiful shopping.

When I first saw my room, I had a "wow" reaction. It was beautifully decorated in a modern but warm design. It was unbelievably spacious for a single person, and the wardrobe and dressers were well designed for a longer stay. There was a working desk, a comfortable couch, and a kitchen with burners, microwave/oven, and a reasonable selection of pots and pans.

More pluses: thick towels, draped over a heated towel bar in the bathroom. Plush bathrobes to wear during your stay. Free self-service laundry in the basement. Courteous staff at the front desk, who promptly located a power adapter for me when I realized that I brought the wrong kind from the states.

So, sounds like a 5-star review so far? Well, almost, but...

-- Without a/c, I found it was necessary to open the windows at night during August. This would have been okay, except that the location is rather close to bars, restaurants, and other night life. Even worse, it sounded like a herd of elephants was occupying the room directly above mine...and they were elephants who liked to go to sleep late and wake up early.

--Although the property advertises as having a fitness room, the facility was extremely limited. The one treadmill was broken, and someone else exercising in the small room told me that he asked and was told that it wouldn't be fixed for another month. There was one elliptical trainer, one rower, and one bicycle. This is simply not enough for a property of this size, especially when equipment breaks down.

--The mattress was extremely lumpy. I usually have more comfortable mattresses in much cheaper hotels.

--High charges for wireless internet in the room.

Bottom line: I ultimately found my room extremely comfortable when awake, but the quality of my sleep (noise, lumpy mattress) left much to be desired. If you are a heavy sleeper who doesn't care to exercise, and who wants a spacious room in a good area of the city, Fraser Suites is definitely worth considering.

  • Liked — Size and style of room, location in city.
  • Disliked — Noise level, lumpy mattress
