I write this review as a return customer who previously stayed in a twin room which I was overall happy with, however this time there were some definite problems!
CHECK IN: On arrival this visit, I noticed a very badly smashed window taped up, I joked to my friend "Knowing our luck we'll end up with that room"... we laughed and proceeded into the hostel, checked in, eagerly went to our room to drop off our bags and as I opened the door and looked forward - I saw the smashed window!! this window was un-openable, in a rush to meet our friend off the train however we dashed to the station (which is just a 5 minute walk from the hostel) and returned to the hostel to complain about the window... however there was no problem as we spoke to a nice staff member who changed our room without any problems.
So far good, however we found on settling into our rooms that unlike our previous trip when we stayed in a twin room that the following was not included: Towels, Shower Gel, A Television, clothes hanging space. Instead we had to hire towels for £1 and had we not brought our own shower gel we would have had to have bought that too. I therefore found that the 4-person rooms lacked some of the good features of the twin rooms which I had expected.
EN SUITE: I also found that although on my previous visit the shower was quite bad that this shower was even worse! The water aims towards the wall (and when your in the shower - your face!) which makes showering annoying. Also after having a shower the floor is soaking!
BEDS: The last time I visited, the matress which my friend slept on was very worn and caved however this visit - in the quad room - the matresses were like new, very comfortable indeed. However this visit the sheets seemed quite dirty, which was very off putting.
ROOM/OUTSIDE NOISE: The room itself was lovely and warm on both visits - the last visit was in the spring time in quite poor weather so the warm room was lovely. I had no problems either times with outside noise.
BREAKFAST: Both times fantastic, it's a free buffet style breakfast of toast, cereals, juices and Tea/Coffee... I do wonder on writing this however if it's included in the price for everyone? (As towels are free to twin rooms but not Quads etc)
EARLY CHECK IN/LATE CHECK OUT: On both occaisions I have used the late check out service which for a fee of £3 per person you can check out at usually 2:30PM instead of 11AM... However, be aware that if you leave your room after 11AM you have to go and get your card reactivated at reception as it deactivates itself after 11AM.
LOCATION: five minutes from Central station - you can't argue with that!
With so much included, flexible Check in/Check out times, a fantastic location and a secure atmosphere I would recommend this to everyone who is looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful to stay for a night or a few nights... Only suggestion is to find out what you are getting in the price as it does seem to vary.
I am planning another two nights (at least) to Glasgow this year and will most probably be staying at the EuroHostel however I would like to contact them to compare room options/prices when my friends and I arrange how many of us are going etc...
