My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights and absolutely loved it!
Just a stone's throw from Central Station, shops, bars and restaurants the hotel is ideally placed for anyone wanting to get out and explore the city, be it during the daytime or at night. As we travelled to Glasgow by train, being just around the corner from the station was ideal as we could just walk to the hotel from the train.
On arrival there was a slight mix-up with our rooms, as we requested a non-smoking and we were given a smoking room (and there is a big difference only in the fact that as a non-smoker the smoking rooms smelt of smoke: not pleasant). However, this was resolved straight away with no fuss. The staff were very friendly, helpful and discreet and very professional indeed- what one would hope for from a 5* hotel.
The room was great, perhaps a little on the small side, but that was more than made-up for by the huge bed and floor to ceiling window that took up most of one wall. The drapes were of excellent quality and the bed very comfy. Lots of lighting options as well, so the room didn't feel too 'hotely'. Great bathroom with mirror lights, marble sink, and heated floor (very nice), and a speaker there too so you can listen to the radio in the bath! The cosmetics provided were also very nice indeed, and gave me just another excuse to wear the complimentary slippers and robes.
The hotel has 2 great bars and 2 nice restaurants. The Collage Restaurant is much better than I expected it to be (as hotel restaurants are often pretty dull), and the local produce was delicious! The bars are fantansatic! Very chic, with fab cocktails. Yes, much time was spent there. Breakfasts were something to behold! With a hot and cold buffet, one cold enjoy as much or as little fresh fruit, patisserie, bread, cheeses, fish, meat, musesli and juices. In the hot selection again there was fine black pudding, scottish sausage, eggs and the usual sausages etc. There was also the option to order seperately from a menu including kippers and porridge, but I didn't try this. The room service menu was extensive, and dishes could be ordered 24hours. Again I didn't try this service.
I had a wonderful stay in the hotel, and despite the central location, it was also a very peaceful one. I didn't try the leisure facilities but I was well-informed they were very plush indeed. Just what you want from a 5* hotel and more! As we were staying fri, sat and sun evening, we enjoyed a discounted rate (£95 with breakfast) which was very good, but the midweek rate was a little steep(£195). Would definately recommend this hotel to all my friends, and if in town will stay again!
