There have been a number of comments about this being a "5" Star hotel - this is simply not the case for a number of reasons - but the main one is location - particularly at the weekends "seedy" is a charitable description. Having said that the concierge staff and reception staff are great and the rooms are spotless. Other issues with 5 star status - the health club needs a good clean - no steam room and the sauna was out of order - also Radio 1 blaring at breakfast ob Sunday ,coupled with the welcome " youve been down already " is not great. Also no evening turndown. So good weekend - but 5 star - no way .

Thanks for the review.

The debate about star rating systems is endless but, in our defence, we satisfy the criteria established by the national tourist board, VisitScotland.

Having said that, I take your points - we are working with LA Fitness to enhance the levels of cleanliness and, while we have no control over it as I've said before, we fully understand our moral responsibility.

The "welcome" at breakfast seems bizarre and I am sorry about that. The radio station is Radio 2 and is chosen as the most popular in the country but it certainly shouldn't blare out.

Not sure the location should affect the star rating but, regardless, businesses in central Glasgow are working well with the council to improve ways of showing off what is a beautiful city.

Whilst our 1 night stay was OK in a general sense, I would not rate it as a 5 star experience. The room was spotless but the decor we found to be a bit dark (5th floor), with an uninspiring view onto a central rooftop. We did like the unusual room layout though, with the central tower for TV, minibar, etc. Whether you appreciate a glass brick wall between your bedroom and bathroom is a matter of opinion!. Usual expensive minibar prices, and beware the electronic system which registers whether you have removed an item. A previous occupant of our room had deviously opened the £3+ jar of peanuts and helped themselves to some without removing the jar from the holder! (My partner cheekily suggested we might be able to do the same with the drink : ) ) Because of the predetermined position of the contents of the fridge there was very little room to store our own bits and pieces. The bathroom was lovely, with underfloor heating and nice Arran Aromatics toiletries, but the water pressure in no way equates to the advertised "power shower". Whilst we realise that the ideal firmness of a mattress is also very subjective surely it speaks volumes when there is a visible rough, dirty plywood board under the mattress, despite which the bed was the least supportive one we have ever slept in. We mentioned that the bed was terrible at check out and the member of staff replied "What? Too soft? Yes, we have new mattresses on order and they are due in about 3 weeks" Hardly 5 star! The breakfast was fine, excellent quality cold fayre, pretty cheap quality hot stuff. As previous reviewers have commented the tables are too close together, and on the morning we were there seemed understaffed. Be aware that you will have to fill out a health questionnaire if you want to use the pool, as it is part of a gym. If you have any health problems you may have to be economical with the truth, otherwise you may have to consult your doctor and come back another day! Finally, a major factor affecting our enjoyment of our stay, was that the streets of Glasgow are FILTHY, particularly with cigarette ends seemingly littering every inch of space and having to run a gauntlet of smokers outside every building. Not nice! I am sorry if this review seems very negative, but I speak as I find.

Sorry to hear you didn't rate us. At the risk of sounding repetitive, I would encourage any of our guests who doesn't get a satisfactory response to a very reasonable gripe to contact me straight away - my name is plastered across the web-site!

The danger with some of the new style of modern hotels is that they can feel a little clinical or institutional. Not here though.

It is the warmth of the staff that makes the difference. I am struggling to think where I have had friendlier service than here.

Nothing is too much trouble.

We stayed on a busy weekend and there was a great atmosphere about the place.

Althought it is a city hotel I found it very relaxing. There is a great bar with plenty of staff so you are not waiting for anything.

Breakfast is spot on. Again no shortage of staff to top up your teapot and good choice on the buffet

On a practical note it is ideal to arrive by train as the station is only a few metres away.

If you are staying in Glasgow don't waste your time trawling for other hotels. Book the Radisson as you will not be disappointed

This hotel was almost perfect in every way. The design of the hotel is fabulous and the room was spacious enough that we didn't feel cramped (even though we had a roll away bed put in the room for our daughter). The staff was helpful and gracious and the amenities were abundant. The health club facilities are an actual LA Fitness (rather than the normal room with a few old machines). If you are travelling by train, the hotel sits right next to the Central Station in Glasgow. It is also in close proximity to the shopping district and local attractions. We loved this hotel and would definitely choose it again the next time in Glasgow.

I've stayed at the Radisson Glasgow twice this year, both times for over a week and both times on business. It's been pretty hard to fault.

It's not the most atmospheric/romatic place (if want that, go to One Devonshire or Mar Hall) but it has a pleasant, modern vibe and isn't too corporate or chainy-feeling.

Here's why I love it:

The staff are incredible. Really helpful, nothing a problem etc etc. They'll go out of their way to make your life easy while you're there.

The room service is really good - tasty and healthy.

There are two good restaurants to choose from on-site.

A big, real gym (it's an LA Fitness club) and a reasonable-sized pool.

Very close to Central Station so you don't need a cab to make your get away if you're going by train.

The only grumble I have is the overcomplicated way they administer free internet access (lots of annnoying scratch cards), but they say this is changing. Oh, and for some reason I had a piece of foam on top of my matress on the first night. That was a bit weird.

Overall, it's a great place to stay if you want friendly efficiency, good food and facilities.

One last thing - if you're in Glagow and want a great, romantic meal, go to Guy's Restaurant (brand new) at 25 Candleriggs, Market City.

Many thanks for your review and I'm afraid I may have to steal your headline to quote about the plece!

Fantastic to hear you've had two good experiences and I am sorry about the card system. As you say, we are trying to change it, it's just taking so much longer than we originally thought but our system people are saying it will be sorted by the end of November.
